In the first game, Jones Inter
cable defeated Raeford Merchants
11-0 in five innings. Jones Inter
cable's leading batters were R.
Taylor 2-2 and D. McNeill 2-3 with
one home run. B. Posey 1-1 and
Da. McNeill 1-2 were the leading
batters for Raeford Merchants.
In the second game, the All Stars
^efeated Ephesus A's 21-2. G.
Iflaynor 3-3, P. Maynor 3-3 with
one home run, B. Leslie 2-2, and R.
Maynor 3-4 with one home run
were the leading hitters for the All
Stars. Ephesus A's hitting came
from J.D. Black 2-2, R. Horn 1-2,
and D. Smith 1-3.
In the final game of the night,
Beasley's Body Shop defeated Hol
lingsworth Barbers 14-13. H.
Thompson 3-3 with one home run.
f'. Barnhill 3-5 and S. Sampson
5 were the heroes for Beasley's.
D. Monroe 3-5, C. Patterson 3-4,
L. McDonald 2-5, and G. Hollings
worth 2-5 were leading hitters for
the Barbers.
In Thursday night action, Jones
Intercable defeated Hard & Heavy
10-8. L. Chason 2-3 with one
homer, R. Taylor 2-3, and M.
Lewis 2-4 were leading batters for
Rrnes. Hard & Heavy's hitting
came from P. Jordan 2-4, K.
McDonald 2-4, and N. Singletary
2-4.
In the second game, Beasley's
defeated the All Stars 14-10,
behind the hitting of R. Edward 3-4
with one homer. H. Thompson 2-2,
M. Sutton 3-5, and K. Juday 2-4.
All Stars were led by G. Maynor
with one homer, L. Morrison 2-4
?oth homers, P. Maynor 2-4 with
one homer and M. Brown 2-4.
In the last game, Hollingsworth
Barbers defeated Ephusus A's 12

with one homer, and G. Hollings
worth 2-4 the leading batters for
the Barbers. J.D. Black 2-4, R.
Davis 3-4, and R. Home 2-4 were
the heroes for Ephesus A's.
As the action continued Monday
night, Raeford Merchants defeated
the All Stars 12-11 behind some
good hitting from R. Wilcox 2-4, J.
Henley 2-4, A. Posey 2-4, and M.
Ivey 2-3. A. McLaughlin 2-2, M.
Brown 3-4, and B. Leslie 2-4 were
the leading hitters for the All Stars.
In the second game, Hard &
Heavy defeated Hollingsworth Bar
bers 11-3. V. McDougald 3-4 with
one home and C. Chandler 2-4 with
one homer were leading batters for
Hard & Heavy. E. Blue 3-3, L.
McDonald 1-3, and G. Hollings
worth 1-3 were the heroes for
Hollingsworth Barbers.
The final game went to Beasley's
Body Shop over Jones Intercable
8-4. S. Sampson 3-4, Edward 2-4
with one homer and W. Barnhill
2-4 paced the way for Beasley's. M.
Lewis 2-3, and R. Shepley 2-3 were
leading batters for Jones.
Play continued July 25. In the
first game Hard & Heavy defeated
Raeford Merchants 12-7. N.
Singletary 3-3, K. McDonald 2-4,
and V. McDougald 2-4 with one
homer, were the leading hitters for
Hard & Heavy. Raeford Merchants
were led by M. Ivey 3-3, D. McNeill
3-4, and C. Crowder 3-4.
In the second game, Jones
Intercable defeated Hard & Heavy
6-2. H. Daniels 2-3 with two
homers and D. McNeill 1-2 with a
two run homer. P. Jordan 3-4 and
H. Hold 2-3 were leading batters
for Hard & Heavy.
In the Championship game,
Beasley's Body Shop defeated Jones
Intercable 9-4 to capture 1st place
in the tournament. H. Thompson
3-3 with two homers, and W.
Barnhill 2-3 were the heroes for
Beasley. Jones Intercable was led
by H. Daniels 2-2. L. Chason 2-3,
and M. Lewis 2-4.

Pepsi Junior Invitational Tennis Tournament held in July at Kinston. L-R ??

doubles winners [Wendy also was consolation singles finalist): William
Carter, boys' 12-and-younger consolation winner, doubles, with partner
Dean Smith of St. Pauls, and boys' 14 and younger; Bill Upchurch. 10-and
?younger consolation singles winner, and doubles runnerup with Donald
James of Lumberton; and Jess Semones, 12-and-younger consolation
doubles with Tommy Lee of Lumberton. Other Raeford area players who
competed in the tournament but are not in the picture were Brian Allen and
Scott Houston.
Registration
Fort Bragg's Recreation Centers
are sponsoring a German-style
10km and 20km Volksmarch for
September.
Pre-registration for this event is
being held through September 12
with an entry fee of $4.
Those registering between Sep
tember 13 and noon on September
18 will have a S5 entry fee.
Registration is being held at the
Information, Tour and Travel Cen
ter on Randolph Street.
The Volksmarch is scheduled for
September 18 from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m. at the Fort Bragg Fair
grounds. The rain date is Sep
tember 19.
All participants will be given
medals as well as free admission
into the Oktoberfest Internationale
which is scheduled for the same
day.

sented the Hoke Tennis Association
in the 1982 North Carolina Heart/
Northwestern Bank Tennis Champ
ionships held July 22-25 at Chapel
Hill.
They are: Barry Sumner in the
men's singles, Steve Phillips in the
men's age 35 singles, Marilyn
Semones in the women's 35 singles.
Susan Phillips and JoAnn Simpson
in the women's singles, Ches
Hayes, and W.K. Morgan in the
men's 35 doubles, and Robert
Calhoun in the mixed 35 doubles,
with Mrs. Simpson as his partner.
