Its branches are twisted, and here and there, a dead, dry limb is hanging down. Parasite plants cling to the rough bark. Its size has increased slowly, and year by year it reaches upward toward the sun, spreading out branches with new leaves to catch the warmth. I have sometimes felt like that old oak -- twisted by my old nature, with dead branches of old habits and sins that cling like parasites. I am sure I have often seemed unlovely to others, with a gnarled, rough exterior. I must allow God to prune away what is lifeless and make the necessary changes in me. I want to be as sturdy as the old oak, reaching toward Christ and the warmth of God's transforming love. PRAYER: Loving God, help me to Imp r?riling toward Yon. Remove my dead, unfruitful fcrMihn m that I will grow. May I ba rooted in Yaw word aa I will ?tead firm la the atoms of life. la V Christ's name. Amen. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY New growth comes in our lives as we open ourselves to God's trans forming love. Dorothy Dickens Meyerink (Mexico) Around Town (Continued from page 1) house several weeks ago which resulted in her hospitalization for a number of days. She would like to thank all those who assisted the night of the fire as well as all those who sent cards, letters and flowers and the many acts of kindness shown during her misfortune. The fire occurred on Tuesday, July 27th, and Thursday, July 29th was to have been her retirement as caterer to the Kiwanis Gub. Need less to say she did not get to serve that last one, but with assistance from her family and friends, the supper was served as usual. I will appreciate you taking care of this notice for her.
