in its long campaign against Burl
ington Industries when employees
of Old Dominion Finishing Com
pany at Altavista, Va. voted over
whelmingly August 15 against the
union in an election conducted by

A truckload of hay was spilled on
Highway 401 two miles south of
Raeford Friday afternoon when a
rear tire blew, apparently after the
other tire of the dual-wheel setup
had gone flat.

Because of a damaging hailstorm
here July 20 Hoke County has been
declared a "disaster area" by the
Farmers Home Administration.

Approximately 475 students will
be better prepared to keep up with
their grade level this fall, J.D.
McAllister, ESEA director. Hoke
County Schools, said this week:

The efforts of the Hoke County
Boosters Club paid off last Thurs
day when the annual kickoff dinner
staged by the boosters netted
almost enough money to pay for the
annual football camp now in
progress.

The Hoke-Scotland Agricultural
Fair will begin Monday and run
through Saturday at the Jaycee
Fairground on Old 401 in the
Hillcrest community.

High School Diploma Course For Adults Set
Want to earn your high school
diploma?
The Adult High School Program
is a joint venture of Sandhills
Community College and the Hoke
County Board of Education to meet
the needs of the adults in Hoke
County.
The program will be governed by
the policies and regulations of the
State Board of Education.
In order to enroll and complete
the adult high school program,
students must meet the following
criteria:
1. Be at least 18 years old and
out of school for one year or more,
unless permission is granted by the
Superintendent of Hoke County
Schools.
2. Have proof of satisfactorily
completing the eighth grade or be
able to perform on the ninth grade
level. Student is responsible for
Group Helps Adjust To Death of Beloved
Sandhills Center is sponsoring a
self-help group to assist persons in
adjusting to the loss of loved ones.
The first meeting will be held
September 13 at 7:30 p.m. at
Wayside Community Club on U.S.
401 north.

Disaster Strikes''^ will be shown,
telling of coping with loss, grief,
and rejection.

League will start play Thursday
night at Lafayette Lanes. Raeford
Road, Fayetteville.
