Hoke Superior Court Judgments Are Issued The Following judgments were amOi$ those issued during the September 20 term of Hoke County Superior Court by Judge Sam Britt of Lumberton. The other judgments were pub lished in previous editions of The News-Journal. I HELPING HAND -- Halloween " candy sale chairman Bobby Ed wards [right], sells the first bag of Halloween candy to Raeford Mayor J.K. McNeill, [ left] . Mayor McNeill also made a donation of SI 0.00 to the local club. Lions Begin > Candy Sales Beginning October 1 and con tinuing up to Halloween the Rae ford Lions Club will be selling bags of Halloween candy to anyone interested in purchasing candy. The candy will cost $2 per bag as members of the local club will be calling on residents in the Raeford area and will be stationed at t different locations throughout Rae * ford during the month of October. Any donations to the Lions Gub will also be welcomed, and these funds will be used to support local and state programs for the blind and the visually handicapped. Halloween candy chairman Bobby Edwards encourages every one to buy their Halloween candy from a Lion and please help ) support a worthy cause. Halloween Fete Planned Oct. 30 For TMH Pupils It's time again for Halloween, and a Carnival for the Hoke County community is being planned for ^ Saturday, October 30, from 6 p.m to 10 p.m., in the Upchurch Junior High School gymnasium. There will be an evening of entertaining activities for kids of all ages. The Carnival is to benefit the trainable multi-handicapped stu dents in the Hoke County school system and is being sponsored by the Parent and Volunteer Commit tee for TMH Classes. ^ This year's Carnival is a repeat of last year's successful effort by this group which raised more than $1,100 for the kids' special activi ties. The Raeford Kiwanis Club is also committed to help with the planning and organization of the event in support of the club's theme, to "Make Every Child Special." Each club and other' organiza _ tions in the community are asked to P help with the Carnival by setting up a booth appropriate for the occa sion or by helping with entertain ment, publicity or concessions. Any group interested in partici pating should contact Mrs. Betty Pittman at 875-3072 or Kiwanians Jim Attaway, 875-3619, or Ralph Huff. 875-3337. All proceeds from the Carnival ? will go to assisting the TMH students. Revival To Open Sunday Night At Tabernacle Church A revival will be held at Taber nacle Baptist Church in Rockfish _ from Sunday through October 14, w starting at 7:30 p.m. daily, the pastor, the Rev. Archie Barringer, announced Tuesday. The Rev. Charles Stevens, director of missions for New South River Baptist Association of Cum berland County, will be the speak er. Special music will be offered each night. ^ The public is invited to attend all P the services. man, ?oo mm nin? n?T, About haH the maadowtark's (Mat to intact* harmful to man, and tha othar haH, Steven Ronald Francis of Rt. 1, Box 397, Raeford, was sentenced to 24 hours in the Hoke County Jail after he pleaded guilty to speeding 48 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. He had appealed to Superior Court from a District Court judg ment of a S10 fine plus court costs for the traffic violation. Kathleen Talbot of 514 E. Fifth Ave., Raeford, was sentenced to 30 days suspended on condition she make restitutions of S28.43 and S141.27 to Bobby Lentz of Jack son's FMA, and pay court costs. The judgment was on two counts of obtaining property with worthless checks. She had appealed from a District Court sentence of 181 days in prison. Rocky Dean Locklear of Rt. 1, Shannon, was sentenced to six months suspended for five years on condition he pay $80 per month for support of his illegitimate child, and pay court costs. Locklear was found guilty by a jury of a charge of nonsupport of the illegitimate child. He had pleaded not guilty.
