Umber Bridge News by Lib Sumn?r Presbyterian Church 0 A joint musical program will be presented Sunday, October 10, 1982, combining the musical talent of Lumber Bridge Church and the Rex Presbyterian Church. Under the direction of Mrs. Charles Norton of Rex, and Mrs. J.N. Maxwell, Jr. The Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church did not have eleven o'clock ?>rship Service last Sunday as the ngTegation was invited to attend the Parkton Presbyterian Church Homecoming Day Service was at eleven o'clock, including the cele bration of the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Following the ser vices, dinner was served in the Currie Fellowship Hall. District Conference and work shop for the Women of the Church was held Wednesday evening, Sep tember 22, in the St. Pauls Presbyterian church. Rex - Lumber Bridge Presby terian Churches Joint Bible Study, under the tutelage of Miss T. Ruth Martin, Professor of Religion at Pembroke State University at Rex Church. This Bible Study was in four sessions. On Sunday nights, Sept. 12th, 09th, 26th and Oct. 3rd. An overflow crowd attended these sessions, with groups from Parkton, Red Springs, Lumberton and St. Pauls. The annual Homecoming Service at the Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, October 17th. Principal speaker will be the Reverend Dr. P. Leslie Bullock, former Professor of Reli gion at Saint Andrews Presbyterian ^College of Laurinburg, now retired. Women of the Church, Circle One, met with Mrs. Henry Bullard on Wednesday night with six members present. Women of the Church, Circle Two, met on Friday evening with Mrs. Alfred T. Beck with eight members present. Devotional by Mrs. Elbert Forbis and Lee Shaw ^ave an interesting lesson on ^'Stewardship." Baptist Church Sermon, "A Second Chance For Greatness" by the pastor, Rev. Henry L. Foster. The Observance of the Lord's Supper. The church observed a study in State Missions and a Season of Prayer for State Missions Sunday evening at 7 p.m. ? The program opened with a covered dish supper followed by the discussion of State Mission Work led by Rev. Foster. The_ Baptist Young Women met with Mrs. Billy Sue Wooley on Monday evening. The Mission Friends and Youth In Action Groups held their meet ings Tuesday evening in the Educa tion Building with leaders, Mrs. Fred Baker and Mrs. Henry Foster. On Thursday night the W omens Missionary Union held their regu lar monthly meeting in the home of Mrs. Henry L. Foster with seven members present. Homecoming Day ? Baptist Church * Sunday, October 24th. The Rev. Frank Turner of Fremont, N.C., a former pastor, will be the guest speaker. Dinner will be served on the grounds. Mrs. W.H. Schell and Mrs. Matthew Thompson spent several days at Holden's Beach recently. Mrs. Wilbur Spears attended the funeral of Mrs. Larry Spears in Clio, S.C. last Monday. Mrs. John Covington and Mrs. Jim Maxwell attended the funeral of Mrs. Sue Covington Harrell in Fairmont last Wednesday evening. Guests of Mrs. John Covington last weekend were Mrs. Jon Evans, Miss Alison Evans and Brad Buie of Raleigh. Mrs. Hunter Forbis spent two weeks in September with Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Robertson in Swan nanoa and enjoyed several days in Knoxville at the Worlds Fair. Mr. and Mrs. J. Edwin Clifton, Jr., recently returned home from a two week's visit with her son, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schropp and infant daughter, Jessica Ann. Visiting last Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Clifton were Mr. and Mrs. Hoke Johnston from Atlanta, Ga. and on Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Allen Johnston from Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Mary Brock has been a patient in McCain Hospital for several weeks suffering with pneu monia. Mrs. Brock is a sister of Mrs. Wilbur Spears. Miss Lena Marley was able to get home from Southeastern Memorial Hospital Monday. Mrs. Gilmer Forbis is a patient in Cape Fear Hospital. Mrs. Doris Johnson Edge of Raleigh has been a patient in Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, for the past month and is still critically ill. Mrs. Edge is the daughter of the late Mrs. Hessie Graham Johnson and Roy Lee Johnson. Rockfish News By Polly Barnard Tel. 875-2736 The Rockfish Homemakers Ex tension Gub met Tuesday morn ing, Septmeber 28 at 9:30 in the home of Mrs. Douglas Monroe with eight members present. After the business meeting adjourned the hostess invited everyone to the refreshment table of assorted finger foods and fruit punch. A social hour was then enjoyed. Mrs. Herman Koonce was sick the past week. Certainly hope she will soon be well and out again. A Mrs. Hazel Tucker returned ^iome Sunday after spending the past two weeks at Duke Hospital in Durham where her granddaughter, Mishee Lucas of Hamlet had surgery. If Mishee continues to improve as this report she will be released from the hospital this week. Mrs. Tucker would like to ^express gratitude to everyone for ^heir cards, prayers and concern shown during the granddaughter's critical illness. Mr. and Mrs. George Brokaw and son, Ray of Bridgewater, New Jersey spent a day recently with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stanger and children while enroute to the coast. They all enjoyed a cookout. Keyleigh Stanger recently cele brated her fourth birthday with a Apart y at her home. Five other children attended and birthday cake and ice cream were enjoyed. The W.M.U. of Pittman Grove Baptist Church are planning a trip by church bus to Waccamaw pottery place at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Saturday, October 9th. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Swann and children, gave Mr. Swann's smother, Mrs. Margie Raynes a ^surprise birthday dinner Thursday evening, September 28th at her home in Fayetteville. After dinner birthday cake and ice cream were enjoyed. She received many gifts and among them was a miniature poodle puppy which the children especially enjoyed. Everyone had a great time. There was a prayer breakfast in the Fellowship Hall of Tabernacle 0Baptist Church at 7:00 o'clock the past Sunday morning, followed by a season of prayer. There was ordination service during worship service the past Sunday morning also. Mr. Jesse Wheeler was ordained a deacon. There was communion service the past Sunday evening with a candlelight service. Mrs. Ozell Hester is getting along real well at home and responding to treatment following heart catherization several weeks ago at Wake Memorial Hospital in Raleigh. Surgery was thought to be necessary at one time but am happy to report it was not required. Mrs. Malcolm Gillis, Jr., Mrs. Ethel Monroe, Mrs. Marshall New ton, Mrs. Gertrude Hare and Mrs. Agnes Clark spent several days last week at Long Beach on a fishing trip. Mrs. Monroe did not feel quite up to fishing she stated but enjoyed being along and seeing the others fish. Mr. L.B. Bundy is getting along very well at this report and has not had any complications from the injury sustained from a fall at home several weeks ago. Attendance was real good at Galatia Presbyterian Church the past Sunday morning for worship service. A congregational meeting followed the worship service. Homecoming Sun. At Philippi Philippi Presbyterian Church will celebrate Homecoming Sunday. Services will start at 11 a.m. The public is invited.
