Around Town (Continued from pg. 1) The day for the general election is drawing near and you can see ads, posters and even the candi dates out campaigning for your vote. Usually this election is more important from the national and state level, but this year, races are important on the local level. There are races for county commissioners and also the race for the Board of Education. There is also a race for the Eighth Congressional seat between Bill Hefner, Democrat, and Harris Blake, Republican. When we were in the seventh district the Democrat was almost a sure bet, if he or she had opposition. This is different in the Eighth because of the strong Republican counties to the west of Hoke. So if you are going to be out of the county on Election Day, please go by the office of the Board of Elections and cast an absentee ballot. ? ? ? Many people have commented to me about the new Baptist Church building and stated that they had heard that it was really nice inside. Of course most of these folks are from other churches and would like to see what it looks like. I understand that the congre gation of the church will hold Open House on Sunday, November 7, and will invite the public to view their new prize. This is not official, but it did come from a reliable source. If anything different comes up, I will let you know. ? ? ? The season for church ingather ings is with us again and we are looking forward to the good food and the fellowship at these events. So be sure to let the paper know when you are having your feed. ? ? ? The newspaper and television have had reports lately about the young men that haven't signed up for the draft. Of course this is just paper work and no one is being called into the service in this day and time. It is for use only if this country should go to war. This procedure, as it is now set up, will save time in case men are needed to protect our country. A small percentage of these young men have not registered and maybe some of them have for gotten, but some just don't want to sign up. A congressman stated last week that he would introduce a bill that would make it impossible for anyone that didn't register to receive any benefits from the HONORED ? 19S2-83 Year book of the Raeford Woman 's Club is dedicated to Mrs. Edna McNeill for her 4b years of service to the club. She went into the club s Literature Department, now the Arts Department, early in her membership and is still active in it. government. This means college aid, social security, medical aid, etc. for their entire life. This sounds mean, but is it? I think that anyone who won't defend the place in which he lives, shouldn't receive any benefits from that country. It seems that the test of anyone these days is through his pocketbook and then he will take notice. So more power to the Congressman!
