Rockfish Mem by Polly Barnard Circle #4 of Galatia Presbyterian Church met Tuesday morning, October 12th in the home of Circle Chairman, Mrs. Gillis Ray with 8 members present. This was the first meeting of the new church year and new Bible study. After the business part of the meeting the Bible study was led by Mrs. Ray. Following adjournment of the meeting re freshments were served by the hostess and a social hour was enjoyed. Dr. and Mrs. David Sutton of Galatia Presbyterian Church are the proud parents of a son, Benjamin, born Tuesday morning, October 12th. Congratulations David and Finley!! We are happy for you! Rev. Christopher (Kit) Schooley was in the pulpit at Galatia Church the past Sunday morning for worship service. His sermon was a gift to Dr. and Mrs. David Sutton and their new son, Benjamin. Rev. Schooley is a pastoral counselor at Fayetteville Family Life Center. Am sorry to report that Mrs. M.D. Gillis, Sr. of the Galatia community is a patient in High smith- Rainey Hospital with a frac tured "hip. Certainly am sorry, "Miss Lizzie!" Hope you have a fast recovery! Mrs. Mildren Guin of Raeford was a luncheon guest of Miss Mary Priest the past Friday. Homecoming at Tabernacle Bap tist Church Sunday was well at tended. The weather was perfect for it! Among those who attended was Rev. David Miller, former pastor of Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barringer of Concord, parents of Rev. Archie Barringer, church pastor also attended. Homecoming will be at Galatia Presbyterian Church Sunday, Oc tober 24th. A picnic lunch will follow the morning worship service. The public is invited. Mrs. Agnes Clark and Mrs. Neda Mae Williams visited Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Thomas and Mrs. George Hales the past Sunday. Mr. Hales and Mrs. Thomas are getting along very well at this time. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Holt and Mrs. Alma Barefoot visited Mr. Holts' brother, J.V. Holt, who is in a nursing home in Raleigh following a stroke. Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.) William L. Bryan, Jr. instructor at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Mis souri died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 12. He is survived by his wife, Anne Byrd Bryan; a dau ghter, Melissa Bryan and son. W. Laurence Bryan, 111. Mrs. Bryan is the daughter of the late Carolyn Dove Byrd of Fuqua who will be remembered through visits to rela tives and friends in the area. Apologies to Mrs. Louise Sanders who called early last week and asked me to put an announce ment in The News-Journal about Homecoming at Tabernacle Baptist Church which was the past Sunday. It was put in the "Rockfish News" but 1 inadvertently failed to put it in as a separate article as she requested. Apologies also to Mrs. Grady English. Did not know at the time of reporting that you accompanied your sisters, Mrs. Louise Watson, Mrs. Arthur Watson and Mr. Watson of White Lake on the trip through the "Smokey Mountains" and to Florida. So sorry Grace!! Glad you had a good trip. Miss Mary Priest was on the "sick list" the past weekend. Archie Priest and Daniel Holden visited the Priest family Sunday. The Raeford Kiwanis Club and the Parent and Volunteer Commit tee are co-sponsoring a Halloween Carnival October 30th at Upchurch High School Saturday October 30th. Among the various activities there will be a "Country Store." If anyone has any items like jams, jellies, canned goods, aprons, kitchen towels, pot holders, etc. they could contribute that could be sold it would be greatly appre ciated. There will also be various baked goods for sale. If anyone has anything to contribute Mrs. Jean Sisk will be glad to pick them up if you call 875-2879 or they can be taken by Brocks Florist. Also, plan to attend as it will be an evening of entertainment as well as supporting a good cause. Kenny Click has been under-the weather for the past few days.
