WWII Submarine Vets Eligible To Join Group Anyone who has served with any Division or Detachment of the Submarine Service of the U.S. Navy during World War II. be tween the dates of December 7. 1941, and October 28, 1945, is eligible and invited to become a member of the Sub-Mariners. This is a national organization for veterans of the Sub-marine Service. It is N.C. state-chartered and quite a body personell, active and participating. I his is a volunteer service and operates on its own contributions. It was organized in North Carolina in 1973 by S.W. Sessoms, Rt. 2, Box 178, Raeford. who has served as past commander of the Sub Mariners and at present is public relations officer for the organiza tion here. Anyone wishing to join or know ing anyone eligible to join please contact Sessoms at 875-2659 and he will be glad to furnish the informa tion and applications and assist in any way possible. Snapp Finishes AF ROTG Training Gary T. Snapp, son of retired Army Chief Warrant Officer and Mrs. Jakie W. Snapp of Route 4, Raeford, N.C., recently completed a U.S. Air Force ROTC field training encampment at Dover Air Force Base. Del. During the encatnpmcnt, cadets receive survival and small arms training and aircraft and aircrew indoctrination. They also have the opportunity to observe careers in which they might wish to serve as Air Force officers. The cadet is a student at Fayetteville State University, N.C. Terry Takes Part In Army Reforger Army Staff Sgt. James J. Terry, son of Thelma M. Terry of 406 E. Eight Ave., Red Springs, is one of more than 100,000 U.S. soldiers and airmen participating in the U.S. Army REFORGER, or return of forces to Germany, and the U.S. Air Force Crested Cap exercises in Europe. U.S. service members in Europe, as well as those from the United States, join their NATO partners in ground exercises centering on cen tral West Germany east of the Rhine River. Terry is with the 3rd Battalion. 6th Field Artillery. Fort Riley. Kan. Kearns Participated In NATO Exercises Marine Staff Sgt. Bobby H. Kearns. son of William M. and Mary E. Kearns of Route 3, Box 146. Raeford, recently participated in two major NATO exercises, "Northern Wedding-82," and "Bold Guard 82." He is a member of Battalion Landing Team 3/8, 24th Marine Amphibious Unit (MAU), Camp Lejeune. "Northern Wedding" was con ducted in Denmark and "Bold Guard" in West Germany. Both exercises were designed to test the capacity of alliance forces to resist aggression in the North Atlantic Ocean, Baltic and Norwegian Sea areas. More than 160 ships, and 250 aircraft from the U.S., Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and the United Kingdom participated. Get InTbuchWith The Future. E. Smith Completes Army Armor School Army National Guard Pvt. E.G. Smith Jr., son of E.G. and Clara Smith of Lumber Bridge, N.C., has graduated as an armor crewman at the U.S. Army Armor School, Fort Knox, Ky. The training was conducted un der the one station unit training (OSUT) program, which combines basic combat training and advanc ed individual training into one 13-week period. During the course, students re ceived training in the duties of a tank crewman, including firing the tank's armament and small wea pons. Instruction was also given in Cpl. R.A. McRae Gets Promotion Marine Lance Cpl. Robert A. McRae Jr., son of Robert and Joann M. McRae Jr. of Route 1, Box 548, Raeford, has been promoted to his present rank while serving at Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune. field radio operations, map read ing, and tank maintenance and repair. W. Morris Finishes Nuclear School Sgt. Walter A. Morris, son of Guy S. and Louise Morris of Raeford, has completed the nuclear weapops technician course at the " U.S. Army Missile and Munitions Center and School, Redstone Ar senal. Ala. During the course, students learned the technical supervision of maintenance, assembly, and cali bration operations performed on nuclear weapons and associated electronic test equipment. They also become proficient in the management of technical J operations as related to a special ammunition unit, nuclear weapons logistics, nuclear accident and incident control and emergency destruction of nuclear weapons.
