Cox-Scarboro Wedding Vows
Spoken In Monroe Saturday
Miss Janie Carolyn Scarboro,
^ daughter of Mrs. Max Smith and
"the late Charles P. Scarboro of
Monroe, and Mitchell Maurice
Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
M. Cox, Jr. of Raeford, spoke their
wedding vows, Saturday, October
16, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mesiah
Episcopal Church in Monroe, in a
candlelight ceremony.
The Rev. Terry Taylor officiated.
Mrs. Pam Senter of Fayetteville,
organist, and Pat Huntley, soloist,
| of Rockingham presented a pro
*gram of nuptial music. Ms. Hunt
ley sang "The Wedding Song" and
"The Wedding Prayer".
The bride, given in marriage by
her brother, Charles P. Scarboro,
Jr., chose a wedding gown of white
satin with a lace stand-up collar.
The long sleeves and full length
gown were also lace trimmed. The
overcape veil of illusion was seal
sloped with lace and formed the full
length train. She wore a wide
trimmed wedding hat scalloped
with lace and carried a bouquet of
yellow and white roses with satin
streamers.
Mrs. Tricie Bowers served as
matron of honor. She wore a gown
of Emerald green featuring
spaghetti straps with a crisscrossed
bodice and skirt, draped to one
side. Her bouquet was also yellow
) and white roses.
The groom was accompanied by
his father as best man. Tim
Roberts of Wadesboro and Dwight
Jackson of Raeford were ushers.
After a cruise to the Bahamas
Mr. and Mrs. Cox will be at home
in Raeford where he is presently
employed at Raeford Salvage Com
pany.
. Mrs. Cox graduated from Cen
tral Piedmont Community College
as a Medical Office Assistant. Mr.
Cox graduated from Pembroke
State University with a B.A. degree
in Sociology.
RECEPTION
Mr. and Mrs. Max Smith were
host at a reception in the Fellow
ship Hall of the church following
the ceremony. Miss Lisa Edwards
ft poured punch. Catherine Edwards,
served the tiered wedding cake and
Mrs. Phyliss Roberts presided at
the bride's book. Tea girls were
Misses Heather Lookabill and
Melisa Gulledge.
REHEARSAL DINNER
An after rehearsal buffet dinner
was hosted by the groom's parents
in the fellowship hall of the church
on Friday evening.
PRE-NUPTIAL PARTIES
On September 25, the bride-elect
was honored at a patio party at the
home of Mrs. Gorden Brown of
Wadesboro. Co-hostesses were Mr.
and Mrs. Baxter Bowers, Jr., and
Mrs. Rick Hildreth.
During the evening snacks were
) served to approximately 30 guests.
On October 6, the bride-elect
was honored at the home of Mrs.
Duckie Williamson with Miss
Wanda Williamson as co-hostess,
at a tupperware shower.

the weekend in High Point in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Forrester and daughters.
Mrs. James McDiarmid returned
home last week after spending
several weeks in Fairbanks.
Alaska. She went especially for a
visit with her son, Grover W.
McDiarmid. and to attend his
wedding to Miss Robbin Roberts,
formerly of Connecticut. Mr. Mc
Diarmid received his Doctorate in
Education at Harvard University,
and has been affiliated with the
University of Fairbanks for about
the past four years, where he
teaches, and is on a research
program for the government on
Education & Recreation.
Luncheon guests in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Gatlin Sunday
were Seavy Highsmith. Jr., Mr. and
Mrs. John W. Dickson and son,
Wyatt, of Fayetteville, Mrs. Gat
lin's cousin, Mrs. Sam Benjamin of
Fort Worth. Texas, and Mrs. Alvis
Dickson.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robinson
and newbown son, Bruce Hart,
have as their visitor Mrs. Robin
son's mother, Mrs. Edward J. Hart
of Cherryville.
Mr. and Mrs. Neil Senter. Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Stone. Mr. and Mrs.
J.H. Austin and Tony, attended the
Carolina-State game Saturday.
They were met there by Mr. and

Robert A. Jones celebrated his 10th
birthday with a party at his home
on Rt. 4, Raeford Saturday after
noon. Those attending were Ed and
Worthy Baker, Carol Ann and Kim
Davis, Ken and Beth Moser, Joe
Needham, Sheri Peterson, Kim
Sessoms, Chad Jones and Jeffery
Strother.
Refreshments of birthday cake,
ice creak cones, potato chips and
Coke were served. Each guest was
presented with a bag of treats.

Rhonda Ellis
Glynda and Rhonda Ellis,
daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ray
mond Ellis, celebrated their 13th
and 11th birthdays, respectively
with a supper and slumber party on
Friday night. Their guests were
Meghan and Laurie McFadyen.
On Saturday afternoon the girls
went skating in Fayetteville and to
supper. Before the evening was over
they enjoyed several games of
Pac-Man and other video games.

Mrs. Leonard Wiggins was
honored on her birthday with a
surprise cookout at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Thompkinson
Friday, October 15.
Upon arrival the eight guests
sang Happy Birthday to the
honoree. Guests included Mr. and
Mrs. Mike Smith of Fayetteville,
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Madden, Mrs.
Wiggins' husband, Zeke, and
daughter, Jennifer and host and
hostess for the evening, Mr. and
Mrs. Glenn Thompkins.
Refreshments of hamburgers,
hot dogs, potato chips. Coke, cake
and ice cream were served.

Mrs. T.B. Lester was hostess to
two bridge clubs at her home on
Donaldson Avenue last week.
On Friday evening she enter
tained the members of the
"Couple's Club" with Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Gatlin the only visi
tors.
Three tables were in play and at
the end of the game high score
prizes went to Charlie Morrison,
club memtjer, and to Mrs. Gatlin
visitor.
On Wednesday afternoon
another club met with Mrs. John
Walker, Mrs. Marcas Smith, Mrs.
H.L. Gatlin and Mrs. Younger
Snead, visitors.
Mrs. John Campbell was mem
ber high scorer, and Mrs. Gatlin.
visitor high scorer.
On both occasions a dessert
course in the Halloween motif was
served before the game.
Mrs. Warner
Members of her bridge club met
with Mrs. Jimmy Warner on Thurs
day evening of last week.
A dessert course and coffee was
served before the game and during
play Halloween candies and punch
were served.
At the conclusion of the evening
prizes were awarded to Mrs.
George King, high scorer, Mrs.
Bobby Gibson, second high and
Mrs. Avery Connell, low.

Mrs. Neil Senter was hostess to
the members of her bridge club on
Tuesday evening of last week. Mrs.
J.H. Blue was the only visitor.
A dessert course, coffee and nuts
in the Halloween motif were served
before the game.
Mrs. Bobby Carter was high
scorer of the club, and Mrs. Blue
was remembered with a gift.

Mrs. John K. McNeill, Jr. was
hostess to the members of her
bridge club at her home on North
Fulton Street on Tuesday evening
of last week.
Members and two visitors, Mrs.
Luke McNeill and Miss Alma
Ferguson, were served a dessert
course with coffee before the game.
During play candy, nuts and Cokes
were served.
Mrs. Frank McFadyen was the
high scorer for members and Miss
Ferguson, visitor's high scorer.

Baton Rouge, La. announce the
birth of their firstborn, a daughter,
Mary FitzSimons.
Mrs. Dietzel is the former Ann
FitzSimons of Raeford. She and
Mr. Dietzel have recently moved

Rouge.
