Hoke's problems began on An son's first possession. The Anson team drove down the field to score on a 35 yard pass play. 1 he attempted two point conver sion run failed and Anson lead 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Bucks took the lead at 6:16 of the second quarter on a 23 yard pass play from quarterback Ricky Chavis to running back Marcus Graham. The two point conversion succeeded and Hoke took an 8-6 lead. Hoke's lead would not survive very long as Anson drove down the field and scored on a 9 yard run from their fullback. A two point conversion pass play worked and Anson took a 14-8 lead into the dressing room at half time. The 3rd quarter was all Anson County as the Eagles scored twice. One score came on a 25 yard pass play and another op a (9 yard pass play. Bmh conversion attempts failed and Anson lead at the end of the 3rd quarter by a score of 26-8. The Hoke team fought back valiantly in the fourth quarter scoring on a 2 yard run by quarterback Terry Brasier after a drive which began on the Buck's own 47 yard line. A two point conversion run by Marcus Graham made the score 26-16. Hoke chances were ended after a touchdown was called back because of penalty and another long drive ground to a halt with an intercep tion of a Hoke pass by Anson. Harriers Win Title The Hoke County High Cross country team won the South eastern 4A Conference Champion ship last Wednesday in the confer ence meet held at Scotland County High school in Laurinburg. ^ In a remarkable performance the Hoke Harriers far outdistance the rest of the seven team field to win the title. Hoke placed first with 45 points, Terry Sanford was second with 69 points, Pinecrest was third with 75 points, Lumberton was fourth, E.E. Smith was fifth, Reid Ross was sixth, and host Scotland was seventh. Hoke was lead by Senior Paul Hunt who won the individual conference title in his last regular season meet for the Bucks. Paul placed first overall in a time of 16:38 to lead his team to the first conference title in the history of cross country at Hoke High. Other Hoke runners were Ronnie McRae who placed 3rd overall, Mike McPhatter who placed 10th overall, Don Woods,, who placed 12th overall, Leroy McNatt who placed 19th overall, Everette An: drews who placed 25th overall, and Kevin Locklear who placed 32nd overall. "The win was a big one for our team and our school," said Coach Ron Parsons. "It was a complete team effort. Our runners knew what they had to do and they went out and did it. I am extremely proud of each member of the team and I can't say enough about their efforts, " he added. The team now moves to the sectional meet to be held in Charlotte on October 29th.
