Roekfish Mews bfPdyBffw ti The "Harvest Party" and hayride was truly a success at Tabernacle Baptist Church last Saturday night. Everyone, young and not so young joined in the fun and entertain ment. Approximately seventy-five people attended. The movie shown at the church Sunday night was well attended and was very worthwhile. If you have not seen "Welcome Home" be sure to see it when you have an opportunity. Sandy Grove United Methodist Church had a Halloween party at the Church Saturday evening Oct. 30th. Games were played by the children and refreshments were provided. It was reported that the adults enjoyed the party as much as the children. Pittman Grove Baptist Church observed the 5th Sunday with a covered dish dinner following morning worship service. Jimmy Dees presented the sermon and special music was presented in the afternoon by "The Choraleers." Attendance was good. Mrs. Leila Barefoot has returned to Denton, North Carolina after spending several days at home. Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Brock, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Brock and daughter. Christina visited Mrs. Willie Sheppard and Mr. and Mrs. William Sheppard and family last Sunday. Mrs. Fleeta Maxwell and Mrs. Neda Mae Williams visited Mrs. Williams Cousin, Mrs. Myrtle Smith of Kannapolis last Tuesday. The nationwide Girl Scout maga zine sale and subscription renewal campaign is now in progress. The week of November 7th is the last week. If you wish to participate you can contact the Rockfish Brownie Troop or Junior Troop. The Junior Girl Scouts are having their annual Tupperware party November 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rockfish Fire Department. Anyone wishing to purchase Tupperware please attend the party or place your order with the Junior Girl Scouts. Mrs. Robert Wood and children. Gay and Stevie. and Tommy Bishop of Dundarrach visited Mrs. Elizabeth Renegar of Asheton Fo rest, Fayetteville last week. Also visiting Mrs. Renegar at the time was another sister Mrs. Ronald Guilette and husband and daugh ters, Joan and Barbara of Greens boro. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Hook of Bethesda, Maryland spent two weeks with Mrs. Hooks sister. Mrs. Elizabeth Pittmans recently. "Bill" Odom of Richmond, Vir ginia spent a few days with his sister Mrs. Elizabeth Pittman re cently. Mrs. Evelyn Mull of Carolina Beach spent a day with her sister Mrs. Elizabeth Pittman last week. Mrs. Lawrence Barnard attend ed the quarterly district meeting of the Welcome Wagon Hostesses at the Manor Hotel in Pinehurst Thursday October 28th. After the business meeting adjourned they had lunch in the hotel dining room. Before returning home she visited Mrs. Gordon Keith of Aberdeen. Mrs. Homer Terry spent the past weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Tripp of Lillington and attended church at Northwood Temple in Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. Miller Cook returned last Saturday from a trip to Florida. They went to Disney World and Epcot Center, Cypress Gardens, Busch Garden and Cape Kennedy Space Center. They also toured St. Augustine. They were joined by Mr. Cooks sister, Mrs. Lewis Allen and husband of Fay etteville. On the return trip home Mr. and Mrs. Cook stayed overnight in Dillon. South Carolina with Mr. and Mrs. Don Wood and children. Public library News QUEEN OF EXTENDED DAY SCHOOL The Library's Mickey Pate was ) the Homecoming Queen for Ex tended Day School in last Friday's parade. Mickey is learning the library in the mornings and goes to school in the afternoons. We are pleased she was chosen as her school's Queen. Her ambitious interest at work and at school are to be commended. ^CHILDREN'S NATIONAL BOOK WEEK NOVEMBER 15-19 Children's National Book Week is still being planned. BOOKMOBILE SERVICES ) The Bookmobile, under the care of Mrs. Letitia Conoly and Mrs. Nancy Morgan is still going out to your area of the county every four weeks. Check with your neighbor who may be already using this service; call the library 875-2502, or come by any time and this service will be explained to you. We want you to enjoy reading and offer this ^ year-round service to those who " find it difficult to come in to town. Just for summer months for youngsters out of school or for the whole year round, can be easily worked out with these two ladies or at the library. If you already have a library card for the main library you will not have to get another one. Or; if you have a Bookmobile card it is always good in the library. | REMEMBER THOUGH! -- Books checked out in the library are always due back in two weeks with overdues 5 cents a day. The Women Missionary Union held their October meeting Thurs day night, Oct. 28th in the Educa tion Center with twelve members present. Miss Pearl Dew - President was in charge of the meeting, as it was an organizational meeting. The Devotion was by Mrs. Ruth Tolar. Prayer by Mrs. Mary Ammons. After a discussion on Home and Foreign Missions, the meeting closed with prayer by Mrs. Mavis Foster. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Flata Schell, Mrs. Gracie Hopkins and Miss Verna Mc Gougan. The Nov. meeting will be held with Mrs. Mary Ammons, Thursday night, Nov. 11th at 7:30 p.m. Baptist Church - Revival ? No vember 14th - 17th. The Rev. Edwin C. Bullock, coordinator of volunteer work on Foreign Mission Board will be the guest speaker. The public is invited. A Halloween party was given by Mrs. Lee Baker and Mrs. Pam Lewis Sunday evening from 5 - 7 p.m. for the children of the Baptist Church at the Education Center. The children were dressed in their costumes and enjoyed several games. Refreshments were served to thirty-five children and adults. Mrs. Henry Bullard visited last week in Wilmington with her dajghter, Mr. and Mrs. M.N. Jennings, Cooper and Sinclair. Mrs. J.E. McGougan spent sev eral days last week with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nor flinger, Elizabeth and Catherine in Richmond. Mrs. John Covington returned home Wednesday after several days with Mrs. Jon Evans, Susan and Alison in Raleigh. They were with the crowd to hear President Rea gan's speech and enjoyed the street entertainment, square dancing, singing etc. Thursday until Sunday, Mrs. John Covington and Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Horton were at Holden Beach . Mrs. Lou Behm and infant daughter, Amanda Lou, of Greys lake. Illinois, and Mrs. Jon Reid Lewis of Charlotte recently visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred erick Cobb. Mrs. Lewis has been elected "Teacher of the Year" at Oak Lawn School in Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Dunn and son. Strother enjoyed a recent vacation in Florida. The trip including Disney World and the new Epcot Center. Mrs. Doris Johnson Edge The funeral for Mrs. Doris Edge who died Tuesday, was at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh with Rev. Edwards officiating. Burial was in Raleigh Memorial Park. Survivors - her husband, Walter Edge, a sister, Mrs. Clara J. Powers of Lumberton and brother, William Johnson of Silver Springs, Md. Mrs. Jack McArthur of Fay etteville died Thursday. Burial was at Camp Ground Methodist Church on Saturday evening. Mrs. McArthur was a sister of Wilbur Spears of Lumber Bridge. Mr. and Mrs. William Spears spent Sunday in Garland with relatives. Shady Grove Church Homecoming Slated Homecoming will be held Sun day at Shady Grove Baptist Church near Wagram. Sunday school will start at 9:45 a.m. and the morning service at 1 1 . The Rev. J.W. Gorham. the pastor, will be in charge. Dinner will be served immediate ly after the service.
