Federal Employes ^ To Start Paying Medicare Taxes On January 1, most Federal employes will begin paying the Medicare hospital insurance por tion of the Social Security (F1CA) tax as a result of a new law, Jerry C. Kizzort, Social Security district manager in Fayetteville, said re cently. The new law excludes temporary emergency employment and certain I services performed by penal in mates, medical interns, and stu dent nurses. Federal employes will pay the 1.3% hospital insurance tax on their annual earnings up to the maximum wage base that is cov ered by Social Security. The 1983 Social Security wage base will be announced by No vember 1, 1982. V Federal employment in and after 1983 will count toward eligibility for hospital insurance in the same way that work covered by Social Security counts. A specified amount of earnings will equal one quarter of coverage. No more than 4 quarters of coverage can be earned in any one I year. The quarter of coverage ?' dollar measure for 1983 will be announced at the same time as the Social Security wage base. Federal employes who work both during and before January 1983 will be given credit for previous Federal employment if they need it to qualify for hospital insurance. Like other covered workers, Fed eral employes may be eligible for . hospital insurance at age 65, before r age 65 if they are disabled, or at any age if they have permanent kidney failure. When a worker becomes entitled to hospital in surance at age 65, his or her spouse also will have hospital insurance protection at 65. To qualify for hospital insurance on the basis of disability, a Federal worker will have to file and meet ^ the eligibility requirements of the " Social Security disability program. Federal employment will not entitle employes to any cash Social Security bJmefits, however. Hospital insurance covers in patient hospital care, inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility, and home health care. Federal employes will have the option to enroll in the medical insurance part of Medicare at the r same time they become entitled to hospital insurance. I'd like to tell you what Girl Scouting does for its members and why we are inviting you to help us bring in new members. "We found a new world" - tells what Girl Scouting does for girls from 6 to 17 years old. It also says what adults get out of being Girl Scout Volunteers. If you've ever had a Brownie Girl Scout in your family, do you remember what a thrill it was for her just to belong to something on her own; to have an adult friend, her leader, who was interested in her just because she was one the Brownies? When she reaches Junior Girl Scout age. she can choose to learn about things beyond her school subjects - anything from repairs around the house to customs of different nations around the world or in her own neighborhood. This is learning she does because she wants to and she doesn't do it for grades. For teen-aged Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts, the world really opens out. They can sample dif ferent kinds of work that they might like to do - and these days, most women do work outside the house for at least part of their lives. These teen-agers practice leader ship in community projects and other group activities of their own, as well as working with younger Girl Scouts. For adults, something is added to your world too. You have the pleasure of working together with women, girls and even some men who see the world in different ways from yours. Once you do that, your world can never again be as small as it was. Girl Scouting is people, all kinds of people, working together on things that really matter. And you even have fun doing it!!! There is something for every girl to enjoy in Girl Scouting and something for you. too. JOIN US!!! Call 875-3881 or 875-8743 To day.
