In Kiumnis Golf Tournament Robinson, Cheripka Win Top Flight | This sign at Arabia Golf Club lists the businesses which were the tournament s sponsors. Calico Corner was also a sponsor. v - The team of Gary Robinson and Mike Cheripka won the Champion ship Flight in the 1982 Third annual Raeford Kiwanis Club Golf Tournament held Saturday and Sunday on Arabia Golf Course. It was a Captain's Choice event, and Robinson and Cheripka came up with a 61-62 for a total 123 for the tournament. Both live in Fay etteville. The runnerup team was com posed of Clyde Upchurch of Rae ford and Mike Allen of Raleigh. The other winning and runnerup teams of the other flights, with the winning team listed first: First Flight -- Larry Lane of Lumberton and Franklin Smith of Dillon, S.C.; and L.C. Walsh and Paul Smith of Fayetteville. Second Flight -- Lamon Locklear and Cavin Clapp of Lumberton; and Bill Lancaster and C.D Bounds of Raeford. Third Flight ?? G.E. Grinnell and Ted Joyce of Fayetteville; and Larry Haire and Bert Atwood of Fayetteville. Fourth Flight Dan McGougan and Joe McGougan of Lumber Bridge; and Larry Johnson and Wayne Haddock of Fayetteville. Fifth Flight -? John Whittenton and Dale Fortune of Fayetteville; and Rex White and W.C. West brook of Fayetteville. Sixth Flight -- Jim Tatum and Mickey Riley of Raeford; and Ei Cho and Ralph Stevens of Fayette ville. The winner of the prize for hitting the longest drive was Gary Robinson. Lamon Locklear placed second, followed by Fortune and Gene Aaron. Hoke High Wrestlers Open Practice ran practice Degan Monday for the hopefuls of Hoke County High School's wrestling squad. Coach Jack Southern will send his 1982-83 grapplers into action November 30 at Richmond Senior High School near Rockingham. The squad working out Monday afternoon on the stage of Mac Donald Gymnasium numbered 29. and these included reinforcements from the Bucks' football squad which ended its season Friday night. Before then, Southern and As sistant Coach Russell Smith had had several days of practice for the non-gridders. Southern told a reporter Monday afternoon. This year's wrestling Hoke High wrestlers warming up Monday afternoon under Head Coach Jack Southern, | left rear]. Hoke Tennis Champs Crowned The Hoke Tennis Association's Closed Championship Tournament drew to a close October 31 after a ? week of competition in nine divi sions. The Men's Singles title was won by Larry- Beasley. who defeated Ches Hayes in an exciting three-set match. The Men's Singles consola tion winner was John Millet. t Sue Davis won the Women's Singles title by defeating JoAnn Simpson in the third set. The Men's Doubles team of Ches Hayes and Larry Upchurch de feated Barry Sumner and Todd Sumner to capture that title. In the Mixed Doubles Division, Steve and Susan Phillips defeated Ches Hayes and Mary James in the concluding match of the tourna ment. In the Men's "B" Singles Divi sion, Terry Houston defeated Tex Deaton, and Mary Stone defeated Mary Deaton in the Women's "B" Singles. I .. In the Women's "B" Doubles, the mother-daughter team of Mary and Karen Deaton defeated Sarah Jefferies Calhoun and Susan Hou ston. In the Junior Finals held on October 30, William Carter won the 14-and-under title by defeating Scott Houston, 7-6, 7-5. The consolation winner was Wendy Simpson. "We have high goals for our selves this year." he said, "and whether or not we achieve these goals depends on how well our ncwcomeers do and also on how much our returning wrestlers have improved." Dec. 9. 5-8 p.m. at the Gibson Cafeteria. Tickets are $3 and may be purchased from any Kiwanis mem ber. Following the Pancake Supper will be the 3rd Annual Reverse Raffle.
