During this meeting arrangements will be made regarding times, day of the week, etc. that classes will be held. The Men's Open league will begin play November 29, 7:00 p.m. at Upchurch Gym, while the Men's Church league will begin play November 30, 7:00 p.m., also at Upchurch Gym. Schedules for both leagues may be. picked up at the Parks and Recreation office on November 24. Coaches are also reminded that entry fees are due before or prior to the team's first schedul ed game. The Men's liniment league will hold an organizational meeting January 4, 7:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office. Cake Decorating Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission is offering a Holiday Season Cake Decorating class for all interested par ticipants. We would need 12-13 people for the course to be taught. The class would meet for five nights beginning December 2 and continuing on December 7, 9, 16, and 30, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the kitchen of the New National Guard Ar mory. Mrs. Joye McNeill would be the instructor. Participants would not need to bring any special items the first class session, but would be informed of future needs at that time. The cost per student would be $10.00. Supplies would be additional. Senior Citizens To Christmas Shop Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission is interested in providing to our Senior Citizen's a Cross Creek Christmas Shopping trip if there are sufficient numbers desiring to attend. If you are interested, contact the Parks and Recreation office at 5-5603. We anticipate the trip taking place the week of December 13. When calling please state your choice of day and phone number where you may be reached. There would need to be at least 25-30 available to attend and willing to pay the $3.00 transportation charge. Bullock, co-ordinator of Volunteer Service of the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board, was the guest speaker for the fall revival held at the Baptist church Sunday through Wednesday. Mission Friends and Youth In Action groups met Tuesday evening at four in the Education Center. The November meeting of the Baptist Women was held Nov. 11th in the home of Mrs. Mary Ammons. Pearl Dew - president opened the meeting with prayer, and projects for the month were discussed. Minutes of last meeting was read by Dorothy McGougan and Ruth Tolar gave the Bible reading. Mary Ammons gave an interesting talk on Baptist Missionaries in Brazil. Prayer by Ruth Tolar, Flata Schell and Mary Ammons. Others present - Gracie Hopkins, Verna McGougan, Pauline Ratley. Lib and Lois Sumner. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. Thanksgiving Eve Service ? The Great Marsh Baptist Church, has invited the Lumber Bridge Baptist Church to the Thanksgiving Eve Service on Wednesday, November 24th at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow the service. Presbyterian Church Circle One ? Women of the church held their monthly meeting on Wednesday. Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the home of Mrs. D.G. Malloy, Jr. Circle Two - Women of the Church, met with Mrs. Sara Ellen Maxwell. Program by Mrs. Kate Weber. Those present Mrs. Georgia Beck, Mrs. Maryleen Forbis, Mrs. Maggie Covington, Mrs. Imogene Horton and Mrs. Mamie Spears. On Sunday night, Nov. 14th, the young Women of the Presby terian Church met in the home of Mrs. Caroline Shook in Dundar rach. On Sunday evening at 6:30 a covered dish supper was served in the Education Center of the Baptist Church at 7:30. A Foreign Mission Study was held in the church sanctuary. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hensley, Director of Missions of the Robeson Baptist Association. They gave interesting talks on Urban Witness in Asia. The community sympathizes with Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Forbis and Henry in the loss of their home by fire on Tuesday night, Novem ber 16th. The adjoining fire depart ments joined the Lumber Bridge Firemen, but were unable to save the house or any of the contents. Mrs. Rosa Lee Faircloth of Erwin is spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. Alfred T. Beck. Mrs. Hunter Forbis returned home Tuesday night after spending some time in Vanceboro with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rob Schock and son, Jeffrey. Visiting Mrs. Ruth Tolar last Sunday were her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tolar, Alana, Christiana and Robert of Fayette ville, and on Tuesday, Mrs. Mar garet Quick of Raeford. Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Lewis spent Saturday in Laurinburg with his parents and sister, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Lewis and Jennie. Spending Friday until Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Johnny McGou gan was their daughter and grand children, Mrs. Bill Norflinger, Elizabeth and Catherine of Rich mond, and a friend of Mrs. Norflinger, Mrs. Sally Gunn and children, Chris and Becky, also from Richmond. The church family Thanksgiving dinner was held in the Fellowship Hall Sunday evening at ?5KX)-p.m. followed by a musical program presented by the Harvesters. The dinner and program had excellent attendance. There will be a church con ference at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Sunday evening November 28th there will be a W.M.U. study course at the church beginning at 7:00 p.m. taught by .Tuanita Cane from Lebanon Baptist Church. There will be refreshments and a fellowship hour following the study course. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Frazier are looking forward to having their daughters. Julie and Joan home for Thanksgiving and the weekend. They are students at East Carolina University in Greenville. North Carolina. Circle #4 of Galatia Presbyterian Church met in the home of Mrs. Pearl Bruton Tuesday morning. November 16th at 9:30 a.m. Mrs. Marshall Ray is Circle Chairman and Bible Study was led by Mrs. Herman Koonce. After the meeting adjourned, refreshments were served and a social hour enjoyed. Child dedication service was held during regular morning worship service the past Sunday at Pittman Grove Baptist Church. Children being dedicated were Ashwyn Dawn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stogner, Jason and Tiffany Rose, children of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Swann, and Ashley Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Valley. Pittman Grove Baptish Church will have Thanksgiving service Wednesday evening at the church. The community extends a wel come to Mr. and Mrs. David Nelson, Jr. who has recently moved into the area. They have two children, a daughter, Carrie, age 3 years, and a son, David Nelson. III who is eight months old. Mr. Nelson is employed at Kelly Springfield. Mack Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Wood of Dillon had ear surgery Wednesday November 17th at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville. He was released Friday. While Mack was hospital ized "Little" Allen Wood, his four month old brother visited his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller Cook and aunt, Mrs. Becky Co* of Raeford. Mrs. Martin Wood, Sr. returned recently from spending several weeks with her son, Fred Wood and family in Greenville. Mrs. Martin Wood, Sr. visited Alex Ray, Thomas Ray and Mrs. Clara Everette the past Sunday afternoon. Jason Turner of Fayetteville spent the past weekend with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Turner. The Rockfish Community Build ing has been moved to the new site. The septic tank has-been installed but the water line nas yet to be installed. The building is not expected to be ready for use until after the first of the year. CHATTING ? Mrs. Richard Kennison. Jr.. [seated] Executive Director of the Pines of Carolina Girl Scout Council. Inc.. talked with Mr. Ken Wit her spoon at the Hoke County Girls Scout Advisory Board Meeting on Nov. 15. Mrs. Kennison came to meet the present members and give an orientation on Girl Scouting. "Who Pays for Girl Scouting", and who supports Girl Scouting in Hoke County and the 20 County Council. Awards were presented to outstanding athletes in their respective sports. Bobby McCraney was given the Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award, also known as the Sam's Award, for football. Two awards were presented to " members of the Girl's Volleyball team. Greta Johnson received the Most Valuable Player Award and Sharon McNeil received the Coach's Award. Laurice Slade, Greta JohnSon and Jean McCor mick were named All-Conference. Paul Hunt was presented the Most Valuable Player Award for Cross-Country. Ronnie McRae and Paul Hunt were named All- | Conference. Cindy Frahm received the Most Valuable Player Award for the Girl's Tennis Team. The Student Government Association is making prepara tions for the Christmas holiday. One of their projects will be gathering foodstuffs for a needy family. f The Spanish Club has also made plans to adopt 2 needy families. These families will receive turkeys and other foods for Thanksgiving. The "Buckeye Review" is plan ning on distributing another issue before the Christmas vacation. This promises to be a very good issue with many features. The 1983 Miss Teenage Hoke | County Pageant is coming soon.
