Conger - Homewood Vows Exchanged In Weldon Miss Betsy Tom Lawrence ? Homewood and Stephen Halsey Conger Jr. were united in marriage Nov. 13 in a noon ceremony at Grace Episcopal Church in Weldon. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Sholes Homewood of Weldon and formerly of Raeford. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Halsey Conger of I Weldon. " Rev. Carroll Bradford Hall of Weldon performed the nuptial rites, assisted by Rev. Joshua Taylor MacKenzie of Durham. Music for the ceremony was pro vided by Jacqui Meyers, harpist and Doug Meyers, trumpeter from the North Carolina Symphony. Benjamin Bailey Burgwyn of Roanoke Rapids was acolyte. .*) Presented for marriage, the bride wore her mothers' wedding gown of magnolia satin with lace appliques. She wore her grand mothers' Venetian point applique veil over her mother's veil of Belgium lace. The bride carried a bouquet of Phalenopsis orchids, twisted willow branches, Spanish moss, stephanotes and chloraphy tum comosum. Maid of honor was Miss Paige ^ Ward of Richmond, Va. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Lorraine Dale Echols Temple of Emporia, Va.; Mrs. Martha Kaye Pass Lambert of Winston-Salem; Miss Dorothy Bennett Wellons of Rich mond, Va.; Miss Betty Eva Kittner of Blowing Rock; Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Cook Fayed of Roanoke Rapids; Miss Susan de Camp Con ger of Augusta, Ga., sister of the r bridegroom; Miss Marion Lansdell Meiere Conger of Weldon, sister of the bridegroom; Mrs. Carolyn Smallwood Homewood, sister-in law of the bride. The attendants wore blue plaid taffeta dresses and carried grapevine baskets filled with statice, dutch iris, daisies, miniature red carnations, roses, Spanish moss, ivy and chlorophytum comosum. * The bridegroom's father served as best man. Groomsmen were Robert Cody Lansdell Conger of Weldon, brother of the bridegroom; Samuel Sholes Homewood Jr. of Weldon, brother of the bride; Robert Lawler Cumbia of Roanoke Rapids; John Miner Botts Lewis IV of Augusta, Ga.; Dr. Cheney l Meil Meiere Jr. of Florence, S.C.; Hugh Wade Carter Jr. of Lake Shores; Henry Miller Anderson Jr. of Charleston, S.C. and David Terry Lawrence of Mount Airy. The bride's mother wore a dress of champagne lace. She wore baby's breath in her. hair. The groom's mother wore a gown of wisteria moire taffeta and a lavender orchid waisl corsage. The bride is a graduate of Saint L> Mary's High School, Saint Mary's College and the University of North Carolina. She has furthered her studies at Appalachian State University and is a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity. The bride made her social debut at the 1975 Terpsichorean Ball. The bridegroom is a graduate of Enfield Academy and North ^ Carolina State University. He is f Mrs. Stephen Halsey Conger. Jr. employed as assistant manager of the South Carolina Division of Coastal Lumber Company, Socie ty of American Foresters. The couple will reside at 412 Hayne St., Walterboro, S.C. The bride's parents entertained at Chockoyotte Country Club following the ceremony. Music was provided by a string quartet from the North Carolina Symphony. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brandon Barringer entertained out of town friends of the parents of the bridal couple at a cocktail buffet on Saturday evening. Out of town friends and attendants of the bridal couple had a cookout at Roanoke Shores. A bridesmaids luncheon was held the day prior to the wedding in the home of Mrs. Robert Baylor Metcalfe in Weldon. The bridegroom's parents enter tained the wedding party and out of town guests at dinner on the wedding eve at Chockoyotte Coun try Club. The couple was honored with a dance at the Chockoyotte Country Club at 9 p.m. on the wedding eve. Host were friends & relatives. Lumber Bridge Choir Plans Christmas Musical The Lumber Bride Community Choir will present the Christmas musical, "Joseph The Carpenter", by Joe E. Parks, on Sunday, Decembers, 1982, at 5:00 p.m. at the Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church in Lumber Bridge, N.C. The 25 member choir is under the direction of Marvin Lynne Max well. Soloists for the service are Betty Elliott, Al McMillan, and Fred Baker, who will portray Joseph. Other selections to be sung are "Ring The Bells." "The Adora tion", and Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus". Everyone is cordially invited to attend the service and the social being held immediately fol lowing the service in the Stamps Fellowship Hall given by the Com munity Choir members. Mr. & Mrs. Farmer Honor Guests On Anniversary On Sunday afternoon November 21, 1982, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alex Farmer were honored on their Forty-Fifth wedding anniversary with an Open House and reception at their home on Route 1. Hosts were their children and grand children: Joe Farmer of the home, Sgt. and Mrs. David Farmer and D.J. Farmer of Route 1, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Hicks, Jr., and Way Hicks of Candor. N.C. Mr. and Mrs. Farmer were married on Sunday, November 21, 1937, at the home of the bride's parents in Wagram. Mrs. Facmer, a retired school teacher, is the daughter of the late John H. McKenzie and Alma McKenzie Townsend. Mr. Farmer, a retired federal government employee, is the son of the late Joseph T. and Mary Parrish Farmer, also of Wagram. Mr. and Mrs. Farmer moved to Hoke County on Route 1 early in 1938 and have lived at their present location since November of 1939 when their home was completed. Guests were received in the foyer by Mrs. Carolyn Roper and Mrs. James Easterling. The register was kept by Mrs. Roper and Mrs. Easterling. both of Route 1. Joe Farmer received in the living room where guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Farmer. Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Hicks. Jr., and Mr. J.C. McKenzie of Elizabethtown directed guests to the den for refreshments. The table was overlaid with an heirloom linen cutwork cloth which was made by Mrs. Farmer's mother, the late Mrs. Townsend. An arrangement of fall flowers, flanked by harvest candles, deco rated the table from which punch, cake squares, and assorted finger foods were served. Those who assisted with serving were Mrs. H.J. Edge of Aberdeen. Mrs. Wayland Hicks of Candor. Mrs. Dale Parsons of Troy. Mrs. Boyd Edmund of Raeford, Mrs. Kenneth Clark of Pinebluff. Mrs. James McPhaul of Raeford. Mrs. A.C. Mclnnis of Wagram, Mrs. J.C. McKenzie and Miss Kathy McKenzie both of Elizabethtown, and Mrs. Vanetta McAllister of Red Springs. Mrs. Reid Childress of Wagram coordinated the re ception. Goodbyes were said to Sgt. and Mrs. David Farmer and Reid Childress of Wagram. Fall flowers and greenery were used throughout the house for decoration. Many relatives and friends visi ted during the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Culbreth had as their holiday visitors their son and his wife. Mr. and Mrs. M.B.
