I love to cook on th? from ^
burner and I hope you will join me
in an exchange of recipes. Hoke
County Cooks are known to be the
best in North Carolina so let's
share our recipes.
Will you please bring yours by
the Home Agents office in the
Lester Building Or call 873-2162.
Looking forward to hearing from .
you. I
At this season of the year you
are interested in cooking ahead
and freezing foods for the
holidays. Following are a few such
recipes:
PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES
1 cup peanut butter - crunchy is
good
1 cup sugar
1 egg A
Mix the three ingredients. Put 1
on lightly greased cookie sheet -
with hands make into large marble
size balls or any size you like. Take
a fork and criss cross. Bake At 350
degrees until golden brown (about
12-15 minutes). Cool.
SAUSAGE BALLS
1 pound sausage (room
temperature) \
10-ounce Kraft extra sharp cheese
3 cups bisquick or biscuit mix
Melt cheese in double boiler.
Mix bisquick and sausage by hand.
Add cheese. Mix well. Roll in small
balls. Bake at 350 degrees about 20
minutes. Makes 200. If wanted
flatter or crisper wafer type, mash
balls flat with fork. Bake for
shorter period until browned.
MEAL IN A MUFFIN I
2 cups self-rising flour (if using
plain flour add 1 teaspoon salt and
4 teaspoons baking powder)
1 cup milk
'/i cup mayonnaise
Vicup finely chopped ham or
turkey
Vi cup grated cheddar cheese
Sift flour into a mixing bowl. In
a separate bowl combine milk, (
mayonnaise, meat and cheese. Add
all at once to flour mixture, stirr
ing only until flour is moistened.
Fill paper baking cups or well
greased muffin pans full. Bake at
425 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
Let muffins sit in pan 5 minutes
for easier removal. Makes one
dozen. These are especially good
served with hot soup.
When you are cooking there is '
always a chance of fire so practice
all safety rules. Fire in the home --
it can happen anytime, to anyone.
A fire can mean the loss of posses
sions - and of your financial iden
tity as well. jf*
A safe deposit box is the place
for important family papers - it's
a place where they will be immune
from fire and theft.
A list of household possessions
and valuable items should be in
cluded too. It's true that many im
portant records can be replaced -
but it will take time and effort.
For just a few dollars a year, you
can keep them safe and simple to
reach in case of a home disaster.
The key is a safe deposit box.
Hint: Use kitchen, bath, and
other ventilating fans sparingly. In >
just 1 hour these fans can blow
away a houseful of warmed or
cooled air. Turn them off as soon
as they have done their job.
Children's Choir
To Present Fantasy
At 1st Baptist *
Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m., the
First Baptist Church Children's
Choir will be presenting the Christ
mas musical fantasy entitled
"Three Wee Kings".
"Three Wee Kings" is an adap
tion of the well-loved story of the
Magi who followed the Star to find
the King.
This musical fantasy brings to- <
gether all the human and animal
characters from the Christmas
story: kings, shepherds, angels,
camels, donkeys, goats, lambs,
lions, and even talking stars.
As the story unfolds, each group
discusses who is to be the Kings,
wondering if one from their group
will be chosen.
The journey of the kings and the ?!
animals ends at the manager,
where the angels show them all that
the King is a human baby who will
be called the Good Shepherd,
Lamb of God, King of Kings, and
Bright and Morning Star.
Everyone is invited to attend this
delightful presentation . The choir
will be directed by Rev. Bev.
Till man, Minister of Music.
