In Weeks To Come Meetings ???lam Glrtt - Extension Homemakers Club meeting. Dec. 15 at 12:10 p.m. Dec. 16 at 12:40 p.m. at the Lester Building. Raedeen Meeting - The Rae deen Extension Homemakers Club will meet at the county ex tension office on Dec. 21 at 2:30 p.m. PfclUppI Meeting - The Philip pi Extension Homemakers Club will meet on Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the county exten sion office. Soybean Meeting - "Survival Through Management" will be the theme of the 16th annual membership meeting of the North Carolina Soybean Pro ducers Association here on January 21, 1982, according to President Ray M. Spencer of Scranton. The meeting will begin at 9:45 a.m. at Raleigh's Royal Villa Motor Inn with the annual business session, followed throughout the rest of the day with educational presentations. COG Meeting -- The Lumber River Council of Governments will meet Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Lumberton. The meeting includes dinner. The Lumber River COG covers Hoke County. Tobacco Referendum - A referendum will be held Dec. 16 to determine whether marketing quotas and price supports will be continued on the 1983-85 crops of flue cured tobacco. Polling stations will be opened from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will be located in these locations: Allendale Community House, Antioch Community House, South Hoke Elementary School and Blue Springs, McLauchlin Community House, Parks Store in Quewhiffle, Hoke ASCS Office in Raeford and Dundarrach Trading Co. in Stonew&ll. If your book is due back on any of the days we are closed you will not be charged over due fines for these days. All dates after Mon. Dec. 27 will be fined the usual 5 cents a day. Remember, all over due dates up to Dec. 22 and after Dec. 27 will have a fine if books aren't returned on time. Art Display - James Linehan, assistant professor of art at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, has won the 11th annual Com petition for North Carolina Ar tists. "Rain" ?? a S-by-5 com posite using wood, canvas and paint - was selected from more than 250 entries. Jurist Peter Plagen said he chose the work because it was typical of what was going on in the art world today. Linehan's work, along with 29 other pieces, is on exhibit at the Fayetteville Museum of Art through Dec. 23. CHRISTMAS DINNER - Christmas dinner was held Friday from 1 0:30 a.m. till noon at the Hoke County Civic Center, for the students of the county Trainable Multi-handicapped Classes. Here are some of the teachers, parents and students at the dinner. Hypothermia A Winter Danger Conserving energy in the winter usually means lower temperatures in your home or workplace. The cooler surroundings don't present a health hazard to most people. But when temperatures are very cold, some people -- particularly the elderly and chronically ill - are at risk of developing hypothermia, a condition where the body temperature drops dangerously low. According to the North Carolina Medical Society, the most common victims of hypothermia tradi tionally have been hunters and campers -- people who are exposed ? * * When making pattern adjust ments. make sure the total waist and hip adjustments are divided equally between the front and back so that the design of the garment is not distorted. ? * ? It is not safe to use the contents of a can that is bulged or swollen; it should be discarded. Cans that have stained labels, small amounts of rust or minor dents are okay, as long as there is no leakage. to cold temperatures for long periods of time. Hypothermia is not always recognized because the expected symptoms - shivering and turning pale -- do not occur. In fact, the hypothermia victim often feels comfortable while those around the victim complain about the cold. Slurred speech, irregular heartbeat, or dizziness are symp toms of hypothermia. A special thermometer which registers below the normal 94 degree mark is needed to detect it. Seek medical attention im mediately if you suspect someone is suffering from hypothermia. MOST TICKETS ?
