J* Raeford Friendship club held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, December 7th, at the Raeford United Methodist at noon for a covered dish luncheon with 52 attending. Haire. president, presided over the business session. Minutes of the last meeting and reasurer report was given by Miss Isabel McFadyen. Get well cards were mailed to M.V. Hedgpeth, wuV Freeman and Mrs. in.H.G. Balfour and fruit baskets were sent to several shut-ins. Mrs. Ann Pate was remembered with a gift for her dedicated work with the senior citizens. Ashley Burell, choir director and organist of the Raeford Presbyterian Church, presented a program of Christmas music. Several carols were sung by the group and Happy Birthday was sung to W.P. Phillips and Mrs. Leonard Miller. Christmas gifts were exchanged and Mr. Burell was remembered with a gift. Special guest was Mrs. Margaret Wmstead. The meeting closed with a prayer for Pearl Harbor veterans by Leonard Miller. Local Pharmacist And Family Move To Raeford Ruth S. Parrish, pharmacist and owner of The Medicine Shoppe in Raeford. her husband, James R. arish, and 14 month old daughter, Katie, will move this week from Fayetteville to the home they recently bought at 415 West Fulton Street, Raeford. Mrs Parish is a graduate of the School of Pharmacy, UNC th.T Hl"^ and the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Leon R. Spar er; " resid'ng in Pembroke. Smith Mclnnis were honored in celebration of their forty-fifth wedding anniver sary at an open house held at Philippi Presbyterian Church on December 5, 1982. Approximately 125 guests called Garden Club Members Drive In Lumberton Members of the NLWC, Garden Department of the Raeford Woman's Club, gathered at John's Restaurant in Lumberton Tuesday evening of last week for their an nual Christmas dinner. Mrs. Earl Fowler and Mrs. Don Steed were hostesses. Two new members, Mrs. Riley Jordan and Mrs. Irene Autry, were welcomed to the club. After dinner Christmas gilts were exchanged. Home, .fe" ec Mee s With Mrs Kncx NCFW, Home Life Department of the Raeford Woman's Club had its annual Christmas covered dish supper at the home of Mrs Clyde Knox Tuesday evening of last week. The home was decorated for the holiday season. A buffet supper was served from the dining table, centered with lighted tapers and Christmas decorations. Dinner Bridge At Cornell Honne Mrs. Avery Connell and Mrs. M.V. Carroll entertained the members of their bridge club for the annual Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Connell on Thurs day evening of last week. Amid holiday decorations din ner was served buffet style and guests were seated at tables in the living room. At the conclusion of the game prices went to Mrs. Ld Manning, high score, Mrs. George King, se cond high and Mrs. Jimmie Warner, low. Gifts were exchanged and each member was presented with a monogramed miniature candle wicking pillow from the hostesses. Walker last Friday evening. She was assisted in greeting and serving by Mrs. Julian Wright. The entertaining rooms at the Walker home were cozy with a burning fire and Christmas decora tions. A three course dinner was served to those present at four tables, covered with Army Navy tablecloths and centered with Christmas wreaths and candles. I JDC Meets ?n Friday The Raeford Chapter of the United Daughters of the Con federacy met at the Hoke County Library for their December meeting last Friday afternoon. Mrs. Aline Wright led the devo tional. Mrs. Lillian Wood, presi dent, presided and led the ritual, allegiance and salutes to the flags. The program leader of the month, Miss Sarah Lytch, in troduced Mrs. Bill Cameron and her daughter, Candance, who gave the program. Candance presented interesting facts on the Con federate White House in Mon tgomery, Ala. Mrs. Cameron's talk was on "Heroes, Hardships and Humor" of Civil War days. Both talks were informative and timely. A box of gifts brought for the Veteran's Hospital in Fayetteville were on display and will be delivered to the hospital before Christmas. The annual auction sale for the benefit of the treasury was held. Mrs. Treva Koonce and Mrs. Walta Bostic, hostesses of the month, served refreshments carry ing out the Christmas motif, dur ing the social hour. Bible Study Group Has Annual December Dinner The Bible Study group of the United Methodist Church met at the home of Mrs. Joe Upchurch on Monday night, December 6, for their annual December covered dish supper with 19 members pre sent. The group, led by Mrs. J. A. Niven, meets every 2nd Monday night in each month at the homes of members. Dinner was served from the din ing table and guests were seated at tables in the living room. Christmas decorations made a lovely setting for the occasion. Singles Club Meets With Mrs. Cole Mrs. Rosa Cole was hostess to the members qf the Singles Club at her home on Wednesday evening of last week for their Christmas party. The entertaining rooms were at tractively decorated for Christmas. Finger foods and punch were served at seven o'clock from the dining table, centered with a Christmas arrangement, and guests were seated at tables in liv ing room and porch. After a delicious meal, gifts were exchanged. Each person brought the recipe for the finger food she had prepared and shared them with the 22 present. Dr And Mrs Jordan Are Hosts For Office Staff Party Dr. and Mrs. Riley Jordan were hosts at their annual Christmas party for the staff members of the offices of Dr. Jordan and Dr. Ramnik Zota and their spouses, at their home on Patterson Street, Wednesday evening of last week. Poinsettias and candles throughout the home made a festive setting for the occasion. Dinner was served buffet from the dining table, covered with a white linen cloth and centered with an Oriental Christmas arrange ment of poinsettias, grapevines and fruit with lighted tapers. Guests were seated at tables in the den. Mrs Senter Hostess To Duplicate Bridge Mrs. Neil Senter was hostess to the duplicate bridge club on Tues day of last week. Mrs. T.B. Lester was a visitor. Christmas decorations made a lovely setting for the lunch served at the noon bridge game. Mrs. Hubert Wooten was the recipient of the high score prize. Gibsons Honored On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Gibson were honored on their 60th Wed ding anniversary with a dinner hosted by their children and grand children. The buffet dinner was held in Lumberton at noon Sunday, December 12. Later in the afternoon the honored couple and host gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gib son in the Antioch community to cut and serve their anniversary cake. Mrs. Gibson was presented an orchid corsage grown by Mrs. Reid (Jo) Granthan of Red Springs. Out of town guests here for the occasion was their granddaughter, Miss Julia Gibson of NCSU, Raleigh, who spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Gibson. Crawley - Russell Vernon Crawley of Raeford and Robert B. Russell of Burlington will be married on Dec. 19, at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Billy Beaver. The couple will be at home on Rt. 2, Raeford. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dickson and grandson, Hal Fogleman of Fay eueville, returned Friday after a trip to Florida and Disneyworld. Mrs. Evelyn Arnold of Fayetteville was a weekend visitor in the home of Mrs. Fleeta Maxwell.
