Lady Eagle Take Pair The Upchurch Lady Eagles hosted East Lee last Tuesday, tak ing a 4S-17 decision. The Eagles took an early 11-2 lead in the first quarter of play and never let up. ! The score at half time was 21-7 with fine defensive pressure put on the ball by Tina Brewer. The Eagles outscored East Lee 24-10 in the second half to tally their 45-17 victory. Jackie Hunt and Thelma Watkins led the Eagles with 11 points each followed by Teresa Kelton's 8. M. Singletary lead East Lee with 13 points. Thursday, the Eagles travelled to Hillcrest to push their record 4-0 for the season. Plagued by poor shooting and lack of aggressiveness, the Eagles managed a 12-10 lead at half time. The third quarter's action was a little better, but things really didn't begin to gel until the fourth quarter when they held the op ponents scoreless. April Armstrong gave the Eagles great relief with 12 points followed by Thelma Watkins 8. The Eagles managed a 34-14 finish. Reese lead Hillcrest with 10 points. In the second game, the Suns downed the Wrecking Crew 78-61. W. Love with 18 points. McDonald and K. Scrivin had 12 points each for the Suns. The Wrecking Crew's leading scorers wore M. Jones with 21 points, F. Barnes 15, and D. Lomack with 10. On Wednesday night, in the first game, the Silver Hill Gang defeated the All Stars 79-74. C. Chandler with 20 points and J. The tournament, one of the statewide activities of the North Carolina Recreation and Park Society, involved men's and women's teams from tome neighboring counties. Hoke County's women's teams won their tournament by defeating Lee County, and by beating Southern Pines twice. The women walked away undefeated by winning at) 6 of the games they played.
