NC Natural Gas Has Strong Year Strong Company earnings, con tinued good gas supply and a suc cessful test of maximum delivery of peak day sales were the features of a report to the Annual Stockholders' Meeting of North Carolina Natural Gas Corpora tions by Company President, Frank Barragan, Jr. In his report. Barragan cited the fact that the Company's practice of running a tight ship over the years has resulted in the lowest cost of operations of any utility in the South and he credits this for earn ings remaining strong even in the face of the past five years of infla tion and the present economic recession. He also noted the expan ding gas reserves being developed nationwide. During the meeting the stockholders heard reports on finance, exploration activities, operations, rates and marketing, including compressed natural gas for use in vehicle fleet operation. During the meeting all nine members of the present Board of Directors were re-elected to serve during the coming year. Re-elected were: Glenn E. Anderson, Raleigh; Alex B. Andrews, Raleigh; Bar rag&n, Fayetteville; George T. Clark, Wilmington; Hector Mac Lean, Lumberton; Donald W. McCoy, Fayetteville; T.B. Up church, Jr., Raeford; Richard F. Waid, Atlanta; and Calvin B. Wells, Fayetteville. Following the Stockholders' Meeting, the Board of Directors reflected Barragan and all other officers to serve during the coining year. Telephone 'Calling Cards' To Be Mailed To Customers Carolina Telephone's new 1983 long distance calling cards will be mailed to customers by Feb. 1. Calling card holders who do not receive their new calling cards by Feb. 1 should contact their local business offices. Customers who are not now call ing card holders and have a need to place calls away from their home or business also may contact their local business offices to obtain a calling card. The redesigned cards are lightweight plastic and feature a 14-digit calling card number. B.S. Wilder, general commercial and marketing manager with Carolina Telephone, reminds customers that calling card calls cost less than operator-assisted col lect and bill-to-third-number calls. "Also, beginning Jan. 10. our customers can no longer bill a call from a pay station to a third a number unless someone a( the" third number authorizes the call." Wilder said. "However, if customers have a calling card, they can charge that call back to their home or business phone." Wilder said telephone operators will accept calls on 1982 calling cards through Jan. 31, 1983. Beginning Feb. 1, only 1983 calling cards calls will be accepted. Calling cards, previously known| as telephone credit cards, received their new name last year in preparation for American Telephone and Telegraph's nation wide inplementation of calling card service (CCS). The name change was one in a series of steps necessary to a accomodate the future changes required when this automated long distance calling system goes into effect during 1983 . and 1984. \ NEW SUBSCRIPTION RATES (Effective Immediately) 1 YEAR: In County *10.00* Outside County *12.00* Sr. Citizens * 8.00* (In County Only) (*plus N.C.
