Sports Bucks Win In Forfeit Greg Hollingsworth with a high score of 27 points, George McLaurin with 12 points and Tony McRae with 7 rebounds lead the Hoke High Bucks to a 58-54 vic tory over Reid Ross Friday night in a Southeastern 4-A conference basketball game. The game had its share of fireworks because the win was recorded as a forfeit. Ross coach Jack Woullard declined to commit on the incident and said. Hoke coach Ron Parsons con firmed that the game was called a forfeit by the officials when Ross's coach refused to send in a substitute for the Reid Ross player who had just fouled out with only one second remaining on the clock. According to Parsons, officials gave Woullard one minute to send in a substitute on three consecutive occasions, but Woullard refused saying the game was over. Parsons said that Reid Ross was given a technical foul after each minute had expired and after three technicals the officials declared a Reid Ross forfeit. Despite the forfeit, Parsons said that Friday nights game was a good defensive showing for his team and especially for two of his players, George McLaurin and Barry Easter ling. Parsons also said that this year's team, which is tied with Pinecrest for first place in the conference and ranked sixth in Eastern North Carolina, is overall a better balanc ed team than last years. "We have better inside players, a little more depth and a lot bigger boys than last year," said Parsons. The Bucks have three more games to play, one of which is with Pinecrest. In other basketball action this week, the girls took a close 45-44 loss against Reid Ross with Pom pili topping the scorer with 17 points for the winning team and Pridgett scoring 1 1 points for Hoke High.
