School News Brotherhood Celebrated At Turlington School Brotherhood week recently cmc u> J.W. TllagHin School as the facahy. staff, and ltalran geared up tor a week of aflwfe phmnrii by the Black History Committer The week's activities included a Black History Facts contest, a movie on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and a Black Heritage Dav assembly. To enhance th students parti cipation in the history contest, the language arts teachers presented lessons on famous Black Americans. Each teacher selected a winner from their classes. The classroom winner will com pete with other winners in the sctiool wide contest. The winner of the contest will receive a prize and a certificate. The language arts teachers abo showed their classes a movie entitl ed "Dr. Martin Luther King. An Amazing Grace**. The movie was a narrative view of Dr. King's life. The assembly for the entire stu (teat body was held Wednesday Momi. rrtnmy 9. The guest speakers for the asxabiy was Rev. John D. Fuller, pastor of Lews OapH Baptist Church la Fayenoifte. The assembly was caBed to order b\ Ms. R. Goodman. Briston Kekoa cave the vdooae address. Mrs. B Bowkn read an inspir ing poem and introduced the speaker. Rev. Fuller. Stephen Baker read Dr. King's renewed speech "I Haw a Dream". Music for the assembly was pro vided by Mis. D. Farrow, Mrs. Lucille McGregor, Mrs. H. McNeil. Mrs. I. McPhatter. and Ms. A. Rogers. They were accom panied by Mrs. B. Upchurch. The group sang "Swing Low" and "Lift Every Voice". The committee wiB conclude their planned activities with the an nouncement of the winner of the History contest. Members of the committee are: Ms. R. Goodman chairman, Ms. D. Page. Mis. D. The students were accompanied on the trip by Mrs. Eleanor Snead. Results of the contests were not available in time for publication, but will be announced next week. FIRST HONOR SYSTEM. Job Placement Group Huddles At Hoke High The Job Placement Centers in Region IV held a workshop at Hoke County High School on February 16. Items on the agenda included Job Placement Techniques, Strategies, Materials and Common Concerns. Representatives from the State Department of Public Instruction and the Job Training Partnership Act shared program update materials with the group. Raz Autry, Don Steed, Harold Gillis, and Lenwood Simpson join ed the group for lunch which was prepared by the Food Service Class at Hoke High.
