Barefoot of Route 2, Raeford, is a member of the 2nd Battalion, 508th Infantry, Fort Bragg, participating in the multi-national peace-keeping force and observers (MFO) as the primary U.S. military contingent in the Sinai. His wife, Amber, is the daughter of Paul and Christal Bradley of West Warwick, R.I. The private is a 1980 graduate of Hoke County High School, Raeford. Pfc. Michael R. Atkins, son of C.A. and Louise Atkins of Route 1, Aberdeen, is also a member of the 2nd Battalion, 508th Infantry. Fort Bragg, participating in the multi-national peace-keeping force and observers (MFO) as the primary U.S. military contingent in the Sinai. The MFO. an independent agen cy responsible to the governments of Israel and Egypt, was establish ed as a result of the 1979 Egypt - Israel peace treaty. The mission of the airborne unit is to operate check points and observation posts and conduct reconnaissance patrols along the Sinai peninsula. The peninsula is located on the southeast shores of the Mediterranean Sea and extends eastward from the Sue/ Canal to Israel and southward from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. The unit will be the third U.S. contingent to serve with the MFO. replacing the 1st Battalion. 502nd Infantry of Fort Campbell. Ky. He is a 1981 graduate of Pinecrest High School. Southern Pines. The 118 officers and non commissioned officers from Red Springs, Albemarle, Laurinburg, Sanford and Southern Pines at tended the Supervisor's Course for M-l Tank Operation and Maintenance. The Course is part of a broad training program designed to prepare the unit for the acquisition of the new tank. Supervisors were instructed by a special team from Fort Knox, the Army's Armor Center. The 2/252nd is the first National Guard unit in the United States to - acquire the new M-l tank as part " of its support mission to the 2nd Armor Division headquartered in Texas. Richardson, son of Lacy Richardson of 715 Silver St., Raeford, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force security police specialist course at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Graduates of the course studied systems security operations, tacti,cs and weapons training and earned 1 credits toward as associate degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force.
