This is an annual event in which handicapped children in our schools meet to take part in an athletic event that follows much the tradition of the Olympic Games. Special Olympics offers these young people the opportunity to participate in a dignified activity and to experience the pride associated with having put forth their best effort. The Special Olympic Oath is "Let me win, but if 1 cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt. Our athletes have been training and preparing so that each can of fer his best in his particular com petition. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded. There will be events in 440-yard run, high jump, running long jump, standing long jump, frisbee, softball throw, 5-yard dash, bowl ing, shot putt, basketball, balloon busting, bubble busting, 440-yard relay, 220-yard dash, wheel chair race, three-legged race, potato race, sack race ending with tug of war. ? The State Meet will be held in Greensboro this year on May 20, 21, 22. Top winners on April 14 will be sent to the State Meet. Ms. Ivey Thigpin is the School Co-ordinator for Special Olym pics.
