Main ? Rwford ?75-4111 School Schedule Set By Board By Sherry Matthews The Hoke County Board of Education has adopted a new calendar which calls Tor the next school year to begin for students on September 1 and end on June 8. In a specially called meeting last week, the board unanimously agreed to cut one of the teacher workdays scheduled for January 26-27 in an effort to prevent students from having to attend the last day of school on Monday. Making (he students return for one day after a weekend "is not fair," board member Bobby Wright said. Hoke Chorus Presents Musical Barnum May 19 The setting is two years ago when a member of the Hoke Coun ty Chorus suggests performing the Broadway musical "Barnum." No one really considers it seriously. Then "Barnum" walks away with three Tony awards and Anne Dorsey, director of the chorus and chorale, gives the musical a second glance. The music is ordered, and a great show starts developing. With the help of returning choreographer Stacey Miller, Ms. Dorsey starts arranging the three ring circus which is the setting for "Barnum." Soloists, dancers, acrobats, and the singers all begin rehearsals. Costumes are ordered; sets are designed; music is learned such as Cole Porter's "Be A Clown" and "There Is A Sucker Born Ev'ry Minute" from "Barnum". Combine the music with the glit ter and showmanship that is Broadway, and one has a show unlike any other Hoke County has ever seen. The lights go on under the big top for oneperformance on May 19 at 8:15 p.m. at Hoke High School. Advanced tickets are on sale for 52 and reservations can be made by calling 875-21 56.
