Double Ceremony Unites Couples Mrs. James E. Quick Quick - McLaughlin Dawn Venessa McLaughlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McLaughlin of Raeford and James E. Quick, son of Mrs. Evelyn Quick of Raeford were married at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Nazareth Baptist Church in Wagram, with the Rev. James Kelly officiating. The bride was escorted by her father James McLaughlin. Maid of honor was Eva Fairley. Bridesmaids were Janice McLaughlin, sister of the bride, Annie Allen, and Marian Monroe. The flower girl was Tomekia McLaughlin Quick and the ring bearer, Mitchell Southerland. The best man was Larry D. Quick. Ushers were the Rev. James L. Lide, Larry Black, Calvin McLaughlin, Wendell McLaugh lin, and Willie Kelly. Directress was Mrs. Kathryn McPhatter and wedding musician, Rehearsal Dinner A rehearsal dinner was given by Mrs. Evelyn Quick and Mrs. Katie Mae Love, the mothers of the bridegrooms. The dinner was prepared by Jeanette Pipkin along with Delories Lide, Jacquelyn Lide, Mary McNeill, and Kathleen McDonald. The menu consisted of potato salad, green beans, ham, fried chicken, rolls, tea and cake. r Mrs. Ann Littlejohn. Soloists were Milton Farmer, David Purcell, and Samuel Littlejohn. The church was decorated with heart-shaped candelabra and spiral-shaped candelabra with flowers and ferns on each side. The bridesmaids wore long can dy pink dresses and carried pink mums. The ushers wore burgundy tuxedoes, pink shirts, and pink boutonnieres. The flower girl wore a long white dress and carried a flower basket. The ring bearer car ried a heart-shaped pillow and was dressed in a white tuxedo. The mother of the bride wore a long candy pink dress. The bride is a graduate of Hoke County High and is presently employed at Kiddie Coral. The bridegroom, also a graduate of Hoke County High, is presently employed at Sandhills Correction Center. Reception The wedding reception was held at five o'clock in the evening at the Hoke County Civic Center. The reception was given by Mrs. Evelyn Quick and Mr. and Mrs. James McLaughlin, parents of the brides. Pre-nuptial Showers Cynthia D. The Nazareth Junior Missionary department honored Miss McLaughlin with a shower on Tuesday, April 12. Mrs. Elizabeth Lide was hostess for a shower on Friday, April 15, in her home. Dickson of Raeford is the paternal grandmother. Miss McPhaul, Bride-Elect Is Honoree Miss Jon Anne McPhaul of San ford, May 28th bride-elect, was honored Saturday on two occa sions. Miss McPhaul is the grand daughter of Mrs. Kate McPhaul of Raeford. A luncheon honoring Miss McPhaul was held at the home of Mrs. J.W. Walker at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Hostesses were Mrs. John Beard, Mrs. R.J. Pearce, Mrs. James Stevens, Mrs. John Bateman, Mrs. Joe Bateman, Mrs. James McBryde, and Mrs. Pete Parker. The bride-elect was presented a corsage of yellow daisies and a gift of china in her chosen pattern by the hostesses. Guests were seated at the dining table and at smaller tables which were covered with Army and Navy cloths. Arrangements of pink azaleas, lilis of the valley, and bridal wreath enhanced the dining area and home. On Saturday afternoon Mrs. Wilson McBryde entertained with a bridal shower at her home in honor of Miss McPhaul. Approx imately thirty friends and relatives attended. The hostess presented the honoree with a corsage of white daisies and a gift of an Army and Navy linen tablecloth. After gifts were opened and displayed, refreshments of assorted party foods and punch were served from the dining room table which was centered with spr ing flowers and pink tapers. Spring flowers were also used to decorate the living room and den. Mrs. John McPhaul, mother of the bride, poured punch. Out of town guests were from Sanford, Vass, Aberdeen, St. Pauls, and Lumberton. Friendship Club Luncheon Planned The Raeford Friendship Club will have a covered dish luncheon on Tuesday May 3, at 12:00 Noon in the Fellowship Hall of the Raeford United Methodist Church. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin E. Lan caster of Rocky Mount. She is employed as a 4-H Extension Agent in Hoke County. The bridegroom -elect is the son of Mrs. Robert A. Pettitt, of Nor ndge, Illinois, and the late Mr. Pettitt. He is employed by the Agricultural Extension Service in Moore County as a 4-H Extension Agent. Friends are invited to attend. Garden Club Meets With Mrs. Jones The Raeford Garden Club met Tuesday, April 5, at 8:00 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Tom Jones, with Mrs. Weldon Bishop as co-hostess. The chairman, Mrs. George King, conducted the meeting. The nominating committee reported the same officers would be serving another year. Joyce McDiarmid was in charge of the program which was an auc tion with each member bringing a plant and other items. The members decided on a spr ing tour of Barbour Gardens followed by dinner out for April 19. Mrs. J.B. McLeod won the door prize. Seorch Begins For Miss N.C. Teenager 1983 The annual search is on to find the most attractive and all-around teenage girl in North Carolina to represent the state in the 1983 finals of the Miss Teen Ail American Pageant in Miami Beach, Fla., October 12-16, 1983. The North Carolina State finals will be held the weekend of August 27-28, at the 1st Raleigh Hilton Hotel adjacent to N.C. State University, some 50 finalists from all over North Carolina will com pete for the title now held by Frances Dixon, a senior at Jordan High School in Durham.
