all the help it can get to make this

veteran, come to the meeting of the

Ashley Burell, director of music
at the Raeford Presbyterian
Church, called and asked me to
mention that the musical, "David
and the Giants" will be presented
Sunday night, May IS at 6 o'clock
in the Fellowship Hall of the
church.
This program is being put on by
the Chapel Choir (ages 6-10). So if
you haven't ever seen the young
folks sing and perform, then you
will not want to miss this program.
Sometimes the script is not always
followed, but it makes for a better
performance.
So mark your calendar for this
event.
Morgan Graduates
From Campbell U.
Betty Hill Morgan of Raeford
was among 342 graduates honored
with degrees at commencement
ceremonies held Monday at Camp
bell University.
She received a Master's Degree
in Education in the Held of
guidance and counseling.
Singing praise
Members of the Sandhills Youth Center sing in praise of the many
volunteers they honored at their annual awards ceremony. There were 68
individual certificates awarded and four organizational awards. Two pro
grams sponsored by the Raeford Woman '* Club, (garden committee and
educational committee) were honored as well as the Hoke County Exten
sion homemakers and the Women's auxiliary of the Raeford United
Methodist Church. At the ceremony which was held Thursday, April / in
the Sandhills auditorium, some of the volunteers gave special recognition
to the residents they had been working with.
Jobless Rate Dips Slightly
Although 60 county residents
found work during March, Figures
released this week by the state
Employment Security Commission
show the number of jobless here
remained the same as the previous
month.
Because of the increase in work
force, the employment rate
decreased a percentage point from
11.8 to 11.7 during the month, the
figures show.
Of the 7,930 in the work force,
7,000 people in the Hoke area had
jobs in March while in February
there were only 7,870 people in the
work force and 6,940 individuals
working.
Four of the five surrounding
counties decreased their jobless
rate with Hoke being the county
with the lowest decrease for
March.
Of the adjoining counties,
Scotland's jobless rate increased
by 21% coming in at 11.69i in
March and 1 1.44b in February. t
Richmond County enjoyed the
largest decrease in unemployment
of the six counties in the surroun
ding area.
The statewide unemployment
rate dropped from 10.2 *1% in
Febraury to 9.8^? in March while
the national toll fell from 11.3 to
10.8.
Economize by using leftover
foods. "Odds and ends" of meats
and vegetables can become a stew
or soup. Or combine them with
other ingredients to make a new
dish. Leftover vegetables can
sometimes be put into a salad.
