Mrs. Carlton Niven, Social Reporter, #75-3 785 Happy gathering Dr. E.B. Turner, (center) President of the General Baptist State Conven tion, Inc. and pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lumberton was the keynote speaker at the Hoke County Missionary Union held Friday, May 6. Over 200 people attended the event. Rockfish News by Polly Barnard Xel. 875-2736 I would like to begin this column by apologizing for listing the name incorrectly in last week's news of the organist who played the previous Sunday at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mrs. Nancy Brady of Fayet teville was the organist and is also organist at Galatia Presbyterian Church! Sorry Nancy! Mr. and Mrs. Alton McCulloch visited Mr. and Mrs. Howard Brown of Greensboro last Sunday sis^r " 'S M" McCul|och's Mrs. Alton McCulloch had minor surgery at Womack Army Hospital at Ft. Bragg last week and is recuperating real well at home. Sympathy is extended to the family 0f Mr. "Fendy" Lowry who died in a mobile home fire in Morehead City April 21. Funeral was Sunday afternoon. Mr Lowry and family had recently moved in|o a house on Money Point Road in the Rockfish area and was employed in Morehead City. Mrs. Lowry is "Hank" Mar tinez's sister. Mrs. Leila Barefoot who is visiting her son in Denton has been hospitalized there, but is recuperating at her son's home now. Mrs Agnes Clark returned recently from a visit with her son Jimmy Clark, Mrs. Clark and children of Forest City. The community extends a warm welcome to the family of Sgt. and Mrs. I homas Faucette and family who recently moved into a home on Koonce Drive. Sgt. Faucette is a native of Burl ington, North Carolina, and is now serving with the 82nd Air borne Division MP Company at Fort Bragg. Mrs. Faucette is a native of Charleston, South Carolina is employed at Pope Air Base. They have a son, Allen who is seven years old. Tuesday evening the Youth soft ball team will play Lafayette Bap tist Church. w Saturday morning the childrens' softball team will p|ay Pittman Grove Baptist Church. Thursday evening the Vacation Bible School workers met at Tabernacle Baptist Church to make preparation for Vacation Bi ble School. Saturday evening the men and boys hosted a "Pig Pickin" honor ing the ladies and girls of the < church. There was a large crowd present ane everyone enjoyed the good food and fellowship. Saturday May 14th there will be a G.A. Day Camp at Camp Rockfish. Sunday May 15th at 3:00 P.M. Rev. James E. "Jimmie" Dees will be ordained at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Participating in the ser vice is Rev. Carl Strickland of Rockingham, former pastor, Rev. Mac Musselwhite of Pittman Grove Baptish Church and Rev. Robert Clegg of Durham, also a former pastor. Rev. Dees has been serving as associate for several months. Following the ordination there will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Mrs. Allen McDaniel of Asheboro, Mrs. Mary Allred of Jackson Springs, North Carolina, Mrs. Michael Moreno of Pen sacola, Florida and Mrs. Andrew Trawick of Point Pleasant. West V irginia visited Mrs. louise Watson Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Kemp Waller and son, Kemp of Fayetteville spent the day with Mrs. Wallers' mother. Mrs. Grady English. They attended church with her and took her out to "Mother's Day Lunch". Personals Mrs. John Henry McNcill and Mrs. James Boyles spent Sunday at Baden Lake with Mrs. Boyles' sons and their families. They were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Boyles and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. David Boyles and son, and Jerry Boyles and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gleason and children, Joey and Jennifer of Plymouth, spent Mother's Day weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Haire. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gammon of Burlington spent last week in Raeford with her mother, Mrs. W.L. McFadyen and her sister Mrs. Joe Chesnutt. They also visited Joe Chesnutt in Moore Memorial Hospital, and her brother William McFadyen of Southern Pines, who had surgery at Womack Hospital April 29. Mr. and Mrs. Garry Frederick visited with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Norton and Peggy Holder in San ford Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Morgenroth of College Station, Texas and Mrs. J.B. Kesterson of Durham, are spending several days this week with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Frederick of the Quewhiffle Com munity. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Corson, Jr. and daughters, Elizabeth and Barbara, left Wednesday, May 4, to return to their home in Newton, Penn sylvania, after spending a week in the home of Mrs. Corson's mother, Mrs. D.G. McFadyen. They spent Friday in Lumberton with Mrs. Eli Whishart. Other weekend visitors in the home of Mrs. McFadyen were Mrs. Jim Carver and son, Jim, of Chapel Hill, and Mrs. Eli Whishart. On Sunday Mrs. McFadyen and guests spent the day in Red Springs in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Buie. They went especially to attend the funeral of his sister, Mrs. Mildred B. Young. Mrs. Kathleen Wilson and Mrs. Marie Lee attended the wedding of Miss Rebecca Blue Wright and Dr. Leslie Robert Ballow in Memphis, Tennessee, April 30. They were ac companied by Mr. and Mrs. Dun can McEachern of St. Pauls and Mrs. Neill McEachern of Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harris and children of Durham were over night visitors in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Harris one night last week. They were en route to Orlando, Florida to attend the Western Auto Market and a tour of Disney World and Epcot. Mr. and Mrs. Ebb Barrington of Pittsboro, spent Mother's Day with his mother. Mrs. Helen S. Barring ton. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Phillips and children. Brad and Brooke of Asheboro spent Mother's Day with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Upchurch and Mrs. W.C. Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Phillips of Raleigh also were here. Mrs. Neill Senter spent last week at the Gatlin cottage in Topsail Beach. She had as visitors a group of ladies from Mt. Airy, friends and bridge acquaintance acquired while she and Mr. Senter were sta tioned there during his tobacco market days. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Burnett spent the weekend in Virginia Beach in the homes of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ab bott and daughter, Ashley, and their daughter, Mrs. Judy Prince. They were joined by another son in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nicholas and daughters of Columbia, Maryland. Mrs. R.B. Lewis has returned home after a visit in Winston Salem. Bridge Mrs. Gatlin Mrs. Robert Gatlin was hostess to her bridge club Thursday even ing of last week. Two tables were in play with Mrs. Neill McFadyen, the only visitor. A dessert course was served before the game. Mrs Walker Mrs. J.W. Walker entertained the members of her Wednesday afternoon bridge club last week, ilembers and one visitor, Mrs. Wlliam Lamont, gathered at 2:30 p.m After a dessert course was en joyed, bridge was in play. High score prize went to Mrs. Chandler Roberts. Mrs. Matheson Mrs. R.A. Matheson was hostess to the Thursday afternoon bridge club last week. Visitors were Mrs. Lewis Upchurch, Sr. and Mrs. Duncan G. McFadyen. A dessert course was served at 2:00 p.m. High score prizes were awarded to Mrs. W.T. Gibson, member, and Mrs. Chandler Roberts, visitor. Mrs. Carter Mrs. Eugene Carter was hostess for her bridge club Thursday even ing of last week. Mrs. Hank Richards was the only visitor. A dessert course was served before the game. Prizes were presented to Mrs. Neill McFadyen, Jr., high score, Mrs. June Johnson, consolation and Mrs. John Pecora, bingo. Mrs Wright Mrs. Julian Wright was hostess for her bridge club last Thursday evening. Mrs. Berder Niven, Mrs. Bill Shirer and Mrs. Harold Gillis were visitors. Homemade ice cream and cake were served upon arrival. Chocolate fudge, homemade cookies and evergreen punch were served during play.
