Last week I read with interest the school board meeting and the item about an ROTC unit for the Hoke County High School. Being a veteran and an old National Guardsman for many years, that was good news to me. Since that time many people have mentioned the item to me and everyone was in agreement that it would be a good thing. We think that the unit would start teaching discipline once again. It seems that this is one thing that has become lax, rot only in the schools, but in the every day walks of life. Of course, no one at this time knows what the costs would be, but if discipline could be taught, it would be worth the price. We feel that the school board would get the unit if they thought the people of the county were will ing to pay for it, so let your feel ings be known now. * ? * Mrs. R.E. Neeley let me read an article published on Friday, April 15 in the Durham Sun. It was about Mr. and Mrs. Fred Culbreth who lived in Raeford for many years and now make their home in Durham. The article was written by Allison Adams and was mostly an interview with the Culbreths' son, Fred Jr. As most of you know Mrs. Culberth has Alzheimer's disease and Mr. Culbreth is stricken with multi-infarct demen tia. Fred Jr. relates the problems he and his sisters, Connie and Carolyn, have had with the sickness of their parents and how they have, at the time, solved these problems. It is an interesting article and I know Mrs. Neeley would be glad for anyone interested to read it. The problem is something that would happen in one way or another to all of us. We commend the Culbreths family for their togetherness and close family ties. Fire brigade A.
