(Photo by Terry Houston ) St. Andrews Garners 4th President's Cup St. Andrews Presbyterian Col lege continued in 1982-83 its domination of Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sports. For the fourth straight year, the Knights' program has been award ed the league's Presidents' Cup. The Presidents' Cup award originated in an effort to en courage participation in conference-sponsored sports. Points are awarded based on the teams' final standings in con ference sports. St. Andrews won the 'men's basketball championship, was se cond in cross country, track and women's tennis, and was fourth in women's volleyball, women's basketball, women's softball and men's baseball. In all, the Knights accumulated 60.5 points. "We are proud to be able to keep the Presidents' Cup another year," said St. Andrews Athletic Director Julian Smith. "It has become a regular fixture in our trophy case." St. Andrews is the award's only recipient in the four-year history of the competition. Each team will be limited to 12 members. Com petition will involve teams of at least 3 females and 3 males. In terested teams must have a representative present. Men's Softball Action Hard & Heavy, Duffie Braves and All Stars Win: Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission Men's Soft ball continued action Tuesday night, May 17. In the first game of the week, Hard & Heavy defeated Jones Intercable 23-6. Hard & Heavy scored fifteen runs in the fourth inning for the victory. R. McRae 4-4 with one home run, A. Thomas 4-4, C. McCall 3-4 with two home runs, V. Morrison 3-4 with two home runs and P. Jordan 2-3 were the leading batters for Hard & Heavy. Jones Intercable's leading batters were D. McNeill 2-2 with one home run, H. Daniels 2-3, Wa. Johnson 1-3, and L. Beasley was 1-3. In the second game, the All Stars downed Boahn Concrete 18-1 in five innings. All Stars leading batters were R. Maynor 3-3 with two home runs, E. Carthens 2-3, D. Crawford 2-3 and O. Maynor 2-4. Boahn Concrete was led by Clark 1-2 and Odom 1-2. In the third game, Duffie Braves defeated the Raeford Jaycees 14-9. W. Walker 3-4, T. Page 3-4, T. Cobbs 3-4 and L. Douglas was 2-4 for Duffie Braves. Raeford Jaycees leading batters were B. Stevens 1-3, D. Gibson 1-3, D. McNeill 1-3 and R. Wilcox 1-3. In Thursday night action, the first game matched Jones Inter cable against Duffie Braves. Jones Intercable defeated Duffie Braves 17-5. D. McNeill 3-3, E. Daniels 3-3, L. Beasley 3-4 with one home run and M. Lewis 2-4 with one home run were among the leading batters for Jones Intercable. Duffie Braves were led by J. Monroe 2-3 with one home run and R. McKoy 2-3. In the second game, Raeford Jaycees edged out Boahn Con crete 5-4. Leading batters for the Jaycees were E. Ramsey 2-2, D. McNeill 2-2 and Stephens 2-2. Boahn Concrete was led by Helt 2-4, Bunnels 2-4, and Watson 2-3. The final game matched the All Stars against Beasley's Body Shop. All Stars won 13-4. All Stars were led by P. On May 28 the Robeson Run ners Track Club will host a youth track and field meet at 9 a.m. in Pirate Stadium on the campus of Lumberton High School. The track meet is serving as the local qualifying meet for The Athletic Congress Junior Olympic program. This year participants must at tend a local meet in order to ad vance in Junior Olympic competi tion. The top 3 place winners in each age group will advance to the North Carolina sectionals in New Bern on June 4. The local meet will consist of both field and track events. All events will allow girls and boys to complete separately and in the following age groups: -Bantom division - 10 years & younger (1973 & younger) Midget division - 11 A 12 years (1971 A 72) -Youth division - 13 A 14 years (1969 A 70) -Intermediate division - 15 A 16 years (1967-68) -Yonth Adult - 17 & 18 years (1965-66) The track club is conducting practices for youth interested in learning more about the sport.
