U.S. flags were flying high Monday on the streets of Raeford in honor of Post Office stands erect and proud as it pays tribute to those who fought
America 's dead war heroes. The solitary flag flying high above the U.S. for their country and died defending its honor.

Homemakers Club held its month
ly meeting Tuesday, May 24th at
the home of Mary Benkosky with 8
members present. The club presi
dent, Mrs. Mary Benkosky called
the meeting to order. Mrs. Agnes
Clark had the devotional and Mrs.
Star Sessoms had the program. A
report was made by the Ways and
Means Committee.
At the end of the business
meeting the scholarship committee
held a brief meeting and later an
nounced the recipient of the an
nual club scholarship.
The meeting adjourned with the
club members reading in unison a
collect that was written by a club
member. The hostess served
refreshments and a social hour was
enjoyed.
Others in the area who attended
the Ivey-Barnes wedding in
Raeford that were not listed in the
news last week were Larry Chason,
Earl, "Chuck" and Jennifer
Chason, Barry and Todd Wood,
Wayne Monroe, Mike Guy and
Curtis Turner. Thanks Larry for
letting me know!
Sympathy is extended to the
family ot Mrs. Mary Capps
Lockamy who died last Wednes
day.
Funeral service was at Galatia
Presbyterian Church Friday after
noon. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
Sunday, May 29 high school
graduates of the church were
honored at Galatia Presbyterian
Church.
Vacation Bible School at Galatia
Presbyterian Church will begin
June 20th and continue through
June 24. Becky Lindsey is director.
Attedance was down a bit at
Tabernacle Baptist Church the
past Sunday due to the holiday
weekend.
The Ruth Class at Tabernacle
Baptist Church enjoyed a cookout
at the home of Mrs. Betty Johnson
last Friday evening.
There was infant dedication ser
vice during morning worship ser
vice at Tabernacle Baptist Church
the past Sunday. There were four
children dedicated.
There will be a men's banquet
hosted by the ladies and girls of
Tabernacle Baptist Church Satur
day evening June 4.
Beginning Sunday, June 5
Tabernacle Baptist Church is ex
panding the ministry of the church
to meet the needs of all persons in
the community.
Julia Frazier will be teaching a
class for children with special
education needs. *
Phyllis Berry will be interpreting
the entire worship service for those
with hearing impairment.
Wednesday evening the RA's,
the GA's Mission Friend and
Youth Group will meet at Taber
nacle Baptist Church. There will
also be prayer meeting.

mother, Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Virginia
Culbreth and Mrs. Anne Gibson
visited the Priest family one even
ing last week.
Rev. Jimmy Bullard of Parkton
also visited the Priest family last
week.

K&W Cafeteria at Bordeaux in
Fayetteville Thursday.
Mrs. Frances Fowler is a patient
at Moore County Hospital.
Congratulations to Terry Clark
who was awarded the annual
Rockfish Extension Homemakers
Club Scholarship. After gradua
tion at Hoke County High School
she plans to attend F.T.I, to study
physical therapy. She is the
daughter of Mrs. Carl Barwick and
Jimmy Clark of Forest City.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Clark and
children Angela, Timmy and Beth
of Forest City spent the past
weekend with Mr. Clarks mother,
Mrs. Agnes Clark.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Simmons
attended memorial service at
Parkers United Methodist Church
and had "Sunday Dinner" with
Mrs. Agnes Clark last Sunday.
Others having dinner with her were
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Holt and Mr.
and Mrs. Jimmy Clark and
children of Forest City.

Presbyterian Church
Mrs. W. Kempor Fitch was the
speaker at the 100th anniversary
observance of the Women of the
Church of Lumber Bridge
Presbyterian Church, May 29.
Mrs. Fitch, wife of the pastor of
Bethel and Shiloh Presbyterian
Churches, is a past President of the
Fayetteville Presbytery Women of
the Church, and well known as a
Bible Study Leader.
Chairman of the observance was
Mrs. D.G. Malloy, Jr., Pres. of
the Women's Group of Lumber
Bridge Presbyterian Church.
Welcome was given by Mrs.
George R. Shook, great grand
daughter of the First President of
the Ladies Aid of the present
Women of the Church.
A large crowd attended this ser
vice. Dinner was served in the
Stamps Fellowship Center.
Mr. and Mrs. Colon J. Ammons
visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Kemp Watts in Clarkton Sunday
afternoon. Mrs. Watts came home
with them to spend several days.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred T. Beck
were in Atlanta, Ga. Saturday un
til Tuesday with their daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny
Mayer, Jennifer and Stephanie.
Miss Mary Monroe Maxwell of
Dundarrach visited her grand
mother, Mrs. John Covington,
over the weekend.
Miss Lib Sumner spent Monday
with her sister, Mrs. J.F. McMillan
and Mr. McMillan, near Wagram.

recently spent the weekend with

4-H 'Self Image' Course
Completed Successfully
Thirty one young ladies recently
completed a course in 4-H which
was held after school at Upchurch
School.
The program consisted of six
two-hour sessions.
The sessions covered "Let's
Concentrate on You," which pro
moted self-image, basics in poise,
care of skin and complexion, man
ners, nail care, exercise and nutri
tion, care of hair styles, and
motivation.
Resource persons who helped
conduct the sessions included Edna
Bratcher on poise and wardrobe,
Rhenda Cameron on a good self
image, Ann Hardin, on exercise,
Helen Mouton on Skin Care and
Makeup, and Lucille Thornton on
hair care.
At the end of the session 27
youth participated in a two-day
retreat at Camp Easter -in-the
Pines to wrap up the program.
Workshops were conducted by
Rhenda Cameron and Reverend
Perry Irby. The guest speaker at
the banquet on Friday night was
Mrs. Madelaine McElveen from
the Governor's Office of Citizens
Affairs.
Adults who helped with the
retreat included Wanda Monroe,
Oenise Melton, and Willie
Featherstone.
The program was conducted and
coordinated by Jan Needham, pro
gram coordinator and Alice Lan
caster, 4-H Extension Agent.

Jr. returned last week from a visit
with Mr. Clifton's sister, Mrs.
Estelle Mohler in Hyattsville, Md.
After a long illness, Mrs. W.H.
Schell is getting along well, and at

Celebrate Birthday
On Sunday, May 29th, Mr.
Freddie McCoilum celebrated his
73rd birthday with four genera
tions of his family present.
After a morning worship service
at Shady Grove Baptist Church,
Wagram, family and friends
gathered at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. McCoilum for a birthday
feast.
Mr. McCoilum, who is a hus
band, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather, celebrated this
occasion with his wife, Annie Bell;
seven of his nine children; 24 of his
30 grandchildren; and all eight of
his great-grandchildren.
