Also, bring your pressure can ner that same day and have it checked. A pressure canner should be checked every year and more often if used a lot. Doings SUMMER AT ZOO ~ The calendar may say it's spring, but at the North Carolina Zoological Park near Asheboro, summer hours are in effect. Now through October 15, the State Zoo will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The Zoo is open every day of the year. More than 500 animals are on exhibit in the 300-acre African section and the 40-acre Education Center. Admission is $3 for visitors 16 and older and SI for children ages 2-15 and senior citizens. The tram fee is $1 a day. July 4 OLD SALEM - The 200th an niversary of America's first Fourth of July observance by legislative enactment will be held at Old Salem on Jaly 4. According to organizers, the historic celebration will closely follow events that took place in 1783 in Salem, now a restored 217-year-old Moravian con gregation town. Old Salem is in Winston Salem. Casey crawls to Annie on his belly, listens attentively during An nie's rendition of the smash-hit "Tomorrow," and absolutely refuses to bark inside a building. The musical "Annie" will open at Mannie's Dinner Theatre in Southern Pines on June 16th. ZOO - A lady boa con strictor named Clyde and a handsome Military Macaw will meet the public every weekend in the amphitheatre at the en trance to the African Section at the North Carolina Zoological Park. Zookeepers will in troduce the macaw at 1 p.m. and the boa constrictor at 3 p.m. every Saturday, Sunday and holidays beginning Sun day. June 5. The half-hour shows will run through Labor Day weekend. There is no charge. The North Carolina Zoological Park is located 5 miles southeast of Asheboro off U.S. 64. Sports June 5 PICKUP RACE - The most Ail-American concept of automobile racing ever devised will make its debut on the na tional sports scene Sunday, June 5 at Rockingham. The All-American Pickup Truck 200. mile feature has been scheduled for a 1:30p.m. start, climaxing two days of racing activity. Preliminary action will start Saturday at 9 a.m. with practice, followed by qualify ing in the afternoon. Only American-made, full-sized Dodge, Chevrolet, Ford and GMC pickups will be eligible. The introductory event will be offered for $15 general admis sion to grandstands; S12 to the infield; $8 for children under 12. August 26-28 PRO AM TOl'RNEY - The 13th Annual Lee Elder Celebri ty Pro/Am Golf Tournament will be held at the Pinehurst Country Club August 26-28.
