forces in a combat environment in

world's ocean and seacoast areas.
Harris is a cannon crewman with
the 24th Infantry Division at Fort

Co-Ed Volleyball
The Parks and Recreation Commission will offer a Co-Ed
Volleyball League for interested teams and individuals. There
will be an organizational meeting on Thursday, June 2 at 7:00
p.m. in the Recreation office.
To be eligible you must be a high school graduate and up, or
age equivalent. Each team will be limited to 12 members. Com
petition will involve teams of at least 3 females and 3 males. In
terested teams must have a representative present. If you are in
terested in playing, but are not a member of a team, you are en
couraged to attend the meeting also.
Men's Softball Action
Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission Men's
Softball continued action Tuesday night, May 24. In the first
game of the week. Hard and Heavy defeated the Raeford
Jaycees 15-3. V. Morrison 4-4, R. McRae 3-4 with with one
home run, C. McCall 2-4 both hits were home runs and A.
Thomas 2-4 were the leading hitters for Hard and Heavy. The
Jaycees C. Crowder went 1-1, C. McDuffie 1-1, B. Stevens 1-3
and R. Wilcox was 1-3.
In the second game, Beasley's Body Shop downed Boahn
Concrete 15-5. Beasley's leading hitters were H. Thompson 3-3
with two home runs, J. Thigpen 2-3 and M. Sutton 2-4 including
a grand slam homer. Boahn Concrete was lead by T. Watson
2-3, J. Boahn 2-3, D. Clark 2-3 and S. Thompson 2-3.
In the third, the All-Stars defeated the Duffie Braves 15-4, R.
Maynor 3-3 with one home run, E. Gibson 3-3, G. Maynor 2-3
and B. Hurst 2-3 were the leading batters for the All-Stars. The
Duffie Braves were led by W. Walker 1-2, R. McKoy 1-2 and T.
Page 1-3.
In Thursday night action the first game matched the All-Stars
against the Duffie Braves, with the All-Stars winning 15-8. E.
Gibson 3-5, P. Maynor 3-4, and R. Leggett 3-4 were the top hit
ters for the All-Stars. The Duffie Braves leading batters were R.
McLeon 3-3, L. Douglas 2-2 and N. McKoy 2-4.
In the second game, Beasley's defeated Boahn Concrete 17-3.
Beasley's scored eleven runs in the first inning for the victory.
H. Thompson 4-4 with one home run, G. Rockholt 3-4, W.
Barnhill 3-4 and W.L. Priest 2-4 with one home run to lead
Bealsey's. Boahn Concrete was led by D. Lunsford 2-2, R.
Odom 2-3 and S. Holt 1-2.
The final game of the night matched Hard and Heavy against
the Raeford Jaycees. Hard and Heavy won 19-4. C. Chandler
3-3 with one home run, A Thomas 3-3, R. McRae 3-3 and K.
McDonald 3-4 were the leading batters for Hard and Heavy. The
Jaycees were led by J.W. Jones 2-2, D. Gibson 1-2 and D.
McNeill 1-2.

a Jr. Tar-Heel Baseball League this year. Anyone who has not

The Parks and Recreation Commission is sponsoring a Flea
Market on Saturday, June 25th, 9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. on the big
field left of the old National Guard Armory. The first 30 to
reserve a space through the Recreation office at 5-5603, will be
able to participate. No Charge.
Wicker Elected Lion Governor
Harry L. Wicker, Secretary of
the Fayetteville Lions Club, has
been elected District Governor of
District 3 1 -F of Lions Clubs Inter
national. District 31-F includes
Cumberland, Bladen, Columbus,
Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery,
Moore, Richmond, Robeson,
Sampson and Scotland counties.
Wicker is the South Central
Regional Director of N.C. Services
for the Blind. He received his
Bachelor's degree at East Carolina
University and Master's degree in
Social Work at U.N.C.-CH.
In addition 10 his work with
Lions Clubs, Wicker is active in
White Hill Presbyterian Church,
N.C. Federation of the Blind,
N.C. Council of the Blind,
American Association of Workers
for the Blind, Flu Cured Tobacco
Stabilization Corporation, Lee
County Beekeepers Association
and the N.C. Farm Bureau.
Wicker is married to the former
Mary Alice Morgan. They have a
sixteen year old daughter, Mary
Ann and two sons; Harry Lee Jr.
age 12 and Warren Kenneth, age.
