Mrs. Gregory Wayne Barker Jordan-Simmons Senator and Mrs. Robert Byrd Jordan, III. of Mt. Gilead, announce the engagement of their daughter. Betsy Lynn Jordan of Charlotte, to Mercer Ward Sim mons, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Mercer Ward Simmons of Lincoln ton. The ceremony will take place September 17, 1983. at the First United Methodist Church. Mt. Gilead. Miss Jordan's mother is the former Miss Sarah Cole, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cole of Raeford. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Willis of MarShville announce the birth of a son, Landon Lee, May 29. at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Willis the former Margaret Postel of Raeford. Mr. Willis is also from Raeford. Hospital News MOORE MEMORIAL Rhonda Holt, surgery Monday Barker-Rudd Wedding Vows Exchanged In Gibsonville Miss Loretta Lynn Rudd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emery W. Rudd of Burlington, and Gregory Wayne Barker of Raeford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Barker of Burlington, were united in marriage, Sunday, June 5, at the Apple's Chapel United Church of Christ, Gibson ville, at 3:00 p.m. Elon College Chaplain William G. Sharpe, IV, officiated at the double ring ceremony. Mrs. Pat Summers, organist, Mrs. Patricia Watkins, soloist, and Troy Brooks, guitarist and vocal accompaniment, presented a pro gram of wedding music. The bride, given in marriage by her parents, wore an ivory gown of silk organza over satin with high collar and point d'esprit yoke. The front bodice featured white silk Venice lace with appliques of lace on front and back bodice, short puff sleeves with wide schiffli lace ruffle and raised waistline. The layered sheer skirt extended into a chapel length train. A two-tiered waltz length veil of ivory illusion, edged in schiffli lace, was attached to a Juliet cap of schiffli lace and seed pearls. She carried a semi-cascade bou quet of gardenias, stephanotis, bridal pink roses, miniature carna tions, fuigi chrysanthemums and baby's breath. Mrs. Robert L. Durham, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor. She wore a floor-length cherry ice gown with puff sleeves, cumberbund and watteau train, and carried a wicker basket con taining fresh-cut pink sweetheart roses, heather, baby's breath, white daisies, pale pink miniature carnations and spirengri. Bridesmaids were Miss Christi Barker, sister of the groom, and Miss Dee Norris. They wore gowns and carried flowers identical to the matron of honor. Nicole Whitt was flower girl. The groom who was attended by his father as best man, wore a charcoal cutaway with striped ascot, pin-stripe trousers and a white wing collar shirt. Robert L. Durham, brother-in law of the bride, Paul Barker, groom's brother, Chris and Craig Durham, nephews of the bride, served as ushers. The best man and ushers wore charcoal tuxedos and grey bowtie and pinstripe trousers. Nicolas Walker served as ringbearer. The mother of the bride wore a shocking pink street length party dress and the mother of the groom wore a dusty rose street length par ty dress. The bride graduated magna cum laude from Elon College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elemen tary Education, and a minor in Special Education. She was a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society, Pi Gamma Mu Na tional Social Science Honor Socie ty; president of the Student Na tional Education Association; elected Elon College's Outstanding Future Teacher of 1982; made the National Dean's List 1980-83; the National Register of Outstanding College Graduates. The groom graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Manage ment. RECEPTION A reception was hosted by the bride's parents, immediately following the ceremony, in the fellowship hall of the church. Relatives of the couple assisted in serving refreshments, and presiding at the bride's book. AFTER REHEARSAL DINNER An after rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents for members of the bridal party and out-of-town guests, Saturday, June 4. Mr. and Mrs. French Hall of Pinehurst left Friday for a weekend at Surf City. Saturday they attended the wed ding of their nephew David Ses soms and Miss Diane Taylor, in Kinston. Jaquelyn Hollingsworth graduated from Sir Walter's Beauty Academy in Fayetteville, after 10 months training. Thursday. June 2. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lannie Bratcher. Mrs. Carlton Niven, Social Reporter, 87S-378S Pettitt-Lancaster Nuptials Spoken In Fremont Church Miss Alice L. Lancaster of Raeford, and John M. Pettitt of Southern Pines, spoke their wed ding vows in a ceremony at the Aycock Primitive Baptist Church in Fremont, Saturday, May 28, at 2:00 p.m. Elder D.B. Stokes of ficiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin E. Lancaster of Rocky Mount. The groom is the son of Mrs. Robert Pettitt and the late Reverend Pettitt, of Worridge, Illinois. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Nancy Joyner, pianist and Mr. and Mrs. James D. Lancaster. "The Wed ding Prayer" was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster, and "Twelfth of Never," by Mr. Lancaster, soloist. The altar was centered with a candelabra, holding lighted tapers, flanked by large arrangements of mixed summer flowers. The bride, given in marriage by her cousin, Jimmy Lancaster, wore a gown of white silk organza and Venice lace, designed with Queen Anne neckline and full sheer sleeves, accented with lace. The bodice and neckline were trimmed with Venice lace and pearls. The full skirt and chapel train featured a wide ruffle, edged with Venice lace. A full length veil of illusion had appliques of matching lace throughout, and was attached to a cap trimmed with lace and seed pearls. She carried a nosegay of white and blue flowers. Mrs. Ann McLaughlin of Morehead City, and Mrs. Sara Mercer of Goldsboro, served as bridesmaids. They wore identical full length gowns of light blue polyester, featuring tucks in front and back of bodice, and carried a single flower. John Carden of Greensboro escorted the groom as best man. Del Bachert of Raleigh ushered. The brides' mother wore a street length dress of lavendar and a while corsage. Mrs. Lancaster received a bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Easi Carolina University. Greenville, and a master's degree in Adult Educa tion from North Carolina State University. Raleigh. She is present ly employed as 4-H Agent at the Agricultural Extension Service in Raeford. Mr. Pettitt is a graduate of the University of North Carolina. Greensboro. He is presently enroll ed in a master's program at North Carolina State Universits , Raleigh. After a wedding trip to the Isle Miss McLeod Bride-elect Luncheon Guest Mrs. Graham Clark and Mrs. Clyde Knox were hostess at a luncheon for Miss Rhoda McLeod of Robbins at the Holiday Inn in Southern Pines Juno 4. Miss Mc Leod and Tommy Clark. Jr.. of Greensboro will be married June 12. at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Robbins. Mr. Clark is a nephew of Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Knox. The fourteen guests were served a three course luncheon at I o'clock. The bride's table was adorned with an arrangement of roses and daisies. Pettitt of Palms, Charleston, the couple will be at home in Southern Pines. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was hosted by the Women of Aycock Primitive Baptist Church, at the Eureka Ruritan Club. PRE-NUPT1AL PARTIES The bridal couple was honored at a dinner party by Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Johnson, at their home in Fremont, Friday evening. May 27, before the rehearsal. May 24 the bride-elect was honored by co-workers in Raeford, and groom-elect was honored b> co-workers in Car thage. Miss Holland Feted At Shower Miss Donna Flolland was honored Sunday night at the home of Miss Marsha Gentry with a miscellaneous bridal shower. The bride-elect was presented a corsage upon arrival. The hostess and her mother. Mrs. Bob Gentry, also presented her a gift of a place setting in her chosen pattern of stainless. Miss Holland also re ceived many other lovely gifts from the guests who attended. Refreshments were served from the dining table which was ac cented with plants. Miss Holland is the August 13 bride-elect of Mack Lewis. Upchurch Couple Hosts To Club Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Upchurch were hosts to the members of the couples bridge club Tuesday evening of last week. All 12 members were present. A dessert course was served before the game, drinks and snacks during play. Mrs. W.T. Gibson was the recipient of the high score prize. May 9 the couple was honored at Western Sizzler in Southern Pines by the Moore County 4-H Leaders Association. April 30 a shower was given by Friends at the Temperence Hall Community Building near Rocky Mount. ATTEND WEDDING Among those from Raeford at tending the wedding were Mrs. Ed Willis, Mrs. Earl Conoly, Mrs. Rose Sturgeon, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Featherstone, Mr. and Mrs. Don Needham and daughter, Stephanie and Diane Conoly. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Maxwell, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Plummer and children, visited Mr. and Mrs. Bill McPhaul and children in Buena Vista. Virginia, the past weekend. Mrs. McPhaul and chil dren returned with them for a week's visit. Mr. McPhaul will join his family in Raeford this weekend. Mrs. H.O. Langdon returned Monday from a visit in the home of her son. LTC (Ret) Edwin Lang ston. in Denver, Colorado. Sonic of the highlights while there were trips to the ski slopes at Aspen and Vail. She also attended a birthday party for her granddaughter. Michelle, at a Colorado college, where she will be a sophomore next year, and the opening of the German Festival where Dale Tooley, candidate for mayor of Denver, presided. LTC Langston is senior Financial administrator in the Space and Electronics System Division for Martin Marietta Aerospacc. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Livingston and granddaughter. Katie Lippard. re turned last week after a visit with their son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Duroff and two daughters, in Howell, New Jersev.
