^^e^eLoJi Mrs. Carlton Niven, Social Reporter, 875-378S Frick - Byrd Vows Spoken In Albemarle On Sunday, May 22, a caneldlight service before an altar decorated with daisies and ferns at Prospect Baptist Church in Albemarle, of Lisa Diana Frick and Ellis Kemp Byrd exchanged wedding vows. Rev. Edward Lowder, pastor of the bride, per formed the double-ring ceremony. Lisa is the daughter of Mrs. Ralph Frick of New London, N.C. and the late Mr. Ralph Frick. She is a graduate of North Stanly High School and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she majored in business administra tion. Kemp is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Huey 1. Byrd of Aberdeen. He is a graduate of Hoke County High School, Sandhills Community Col lege and University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he majored in computer science. He is employed with Harris Teeter Supermarkets Inc. at Charlotte. Mrs. Eddie H. Huneycutt, organist, provided a program of wedding music. Mark Morris, soloist, sang "The Wedding Song," and "The Lord's Prayer." The bride was given in marriage by her grandfather, M.C. Frick. She wore a full-length wedding gown of chantilly lace over white bridal satin. Fashioned with a wed ding band collar of Venice lace, scattered with pearls and rhinestones on an English net yoke, of Victorian style, edged with wide Schiffli lace ruffle. The full-length sleeves of bridal satin were edged with lace formed points over the hands. The cathedral train was edged in a deep schiffli lace ruffle. The headpiece of the fingertip veil was made of Venice lace. The bride carried a white prayer-book top ped with a single orchid. The matron of honor was Denise King, sister of the bride. Maid of honor was Donna Thorpe. Bridesmaid was Laurie Byrd, sister of the bridegroom. Attendants all wore light blue polyester floor length gowns. They wore matching bouquets of spring flowers in their hair. Each attendant carried two long stemmed white carnations tied with matching ribbons. The father of the bridegroom, was best man. Virginia Byrd, sister of the bridegroom, served as register at tendant and greeted the guests upon arrival. She wore a mint green floor-length polyester dress with a white carnation corsage. Colleen Frick, sister-in-law of the bride, directed the wedding. The bridal couple and the wed ding party spoke with each guest in the front of the church after the wedding. After a wedding trip to the beach, the couple will make their home in Charlotte. The rehearsal was on Saturday evening, May 21. After the rehear sal, the cake cutting was held in the church fellowship hall, given by the brides mother. The bride and bridegroom chose this time to honor each attendant with a gift. Out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Frick, and children from Aberdeen; Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Hall of King, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. Ennis Byrd, and children of Orrum, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. Hal Ivey of Proctorville; Mr. and Mrs. John Ferrell and Jeannette, Fuquay-Varina; and Virginia Byrd, Forrest City, Ark. Friendship Club Holds Meeting On June 7 The Raeford Friendship Club met Tuesday, June 7 at the Raeford United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The meeting was opened by Mrs. Ellen Heidenreich in song. Mrs. Heidenreich, who teaches the Upchurch Jr. High School Chorus, sang several selec tions. Prayer was led by Leonard Miler. Mrs. Janie Ramsey was welcomed back to the club. Cards for the sick were mailed to several members. It was announced at the meeting that noon meals will be furnished to Senior Citizens at McLauchlin School five days a week during the summer. It was also announced that a Bingo Party will be held June 29 at the Parks and Recrea tion Dept at 2 p.m. Several members volunteered to take a mixture of canned goods and other foods to Mrs. Catherine Phillips, a members, who has been sick. A list of hostesses for next year was presented by Mrs. Bertie Haire. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Bobby l.entz attend ed reunions of both of their families in Kentucky during the Memorial Day weekend. Saturday evening they attended the reunion of Mr. Lentz's family. They visited with family from as far away as Texas and Canada. Sunday after noon they visited with Mrs. Lentz's mother's famil\ and saw many relatives from Ohio and Kentucky. Mrs. J.M. Andrews returned last week from a trip to Pa., New Jersey and New York. She was the guest of Frank Graham in Philadelphia. They attended the dedication of the Horace P. An drews Conference Room, Person nel Counseling Service at Rutgers University. She visited friends at Cherry Grove, Fire Island, N.Y. where the Horace P. Andrews Pavilion was dedicated at noon on Sunday in memory of Mrs. An drews' son who was Professor in Statistics at Rutgers and spent his summers at his home at Cherry Grove, Fire Island. T/Sgt. and Mrs. Michael Hinnant and daughter of Tampa, Fla. are spending this week with her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin McDuffie. White Lake N.C. Weathers of Southern Pines announce the engagement of their daughter Kelly to Mr. M. Glenn Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Myrl L. Miller of Raeford. Glenn is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dean of Cumberland and the late Mr. William M. Davis. A July 30 wedding is planned. Church Pastor Is Honored The Rev. James L. Glenn, pastor of Freedom Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church was honored with a birthday dinner in the church Fellowship Hall on June 6. Glenn received many useful gifts which included a Samsonite at tache case from the local preachers of the church. Mrs. Nettie McDuffie and Mrs. Lillie Rheames prepared a Steak dinner with all the trimmings for the honored guest and his wife, Mrs. Ruth J. Glenn. Fried chicken, macaroni salad, potato chips, mints, peanuts, ice tea and lime Jello cake with cool whip topping was enjoyed by all who attended. Mrs. McDuffie also baked and decorated a Birthday cake which was used for a Centerpiece for the Honoree's table. The cake was given to Rev. Glenn after the din ner. ?Junior Woman's Club Ends Year Racford Junior Woman's Club celebrated the end of their club year with a dinner at the JFR Barn in Southern Pines, June 4. President Jane Britt welcomed members and their husbands to a superb steak diner, salad bar, and all the trimmings. Betty Odom, historian, delivered the devotion before the meal. After, members and guests had dined, Gwen Booker provided entertainment with a hilarious ac count of the club members as they might appear in the year 1998. New members Donna O'Briant and Verna Barnhill presented the "Citizenship Award" and "Club Woman of the Year" award. Receiving the citizenship award was Sonya Falls. Club Woman of the Year was Gwen Booker. Each recipient was given the traditional silver bowl which accompanies this award. A special award was given this year to one of the husbands of a club member. Receiving a gift certificate was Larry Lippard, for his extra help given to the club's Bingo games. His homemade Bingo machine helped the club realize a nice profit from the games. President Jane Britt presented this award after which First Vice President Connie Ferguson ad journed the meeting. Personals ? Brad and Brooke Phillips of Ashe boro were here for the weekend. Brooke stayed with her grand mother, Mrs. Bill Upchurch and Brad visited with his cousins, Bill and Bart Upchurch. Mr. and Mrs. George H. Freeman of Washington spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. G.M. j Freeman. Mrs. Perry Freeman of Ether was a dinner guest Saturday. Mrs. Everette Ferrell of Saxpahaw and Mrs. W.M. Blackman of High Point visited their mother, Mrs. Carl Freeman last week. While here they took Mrs. Freeman to the beach for a few days. Mrs. J.M. Andrews and Mrs. Derry Walker of Pinehurst spent I. the weekend in historic Bath in Edenton, N.C. They were guests at Lord's Proprietors Inn for bed and breakfast. J Birthday celebration Estella and M'eldon Cart hers of Rt. /, Raeford celebrated their birthdays Sunday in a joint parly honoring the couple. Estella was 74 on June 5 and tt eldon H ill be 77 on June 10. Family members and friends held a dinner for the couple at the home of their daughter, Myrtle Blue.
