Safety celebration Burlington Industries of Raeford celebrated II million accident free hours last week with steak dinners served around the clock Tuesday for their 1200 employees and another steak dinner on W ednesday with members of the press and Burlington's Chairman of the board and chief executive officer William A. Klopman. The plant, which produces worsted fabric for the Burlington Mens wear division, has been working on its safety record since 1978. The II million hour mark h-os reached May 14. "Records like this don't just happen. " Klopman said. In addition to the safety recognition. Klopman said the plant had received national first place awards among worsted manufacturing units for the past five years. Burlington 's sister plant in Raeford was also recognized for its 2.9 million safety hours compiled since 1979. Receiving the award of excellence is Bill Archer (left). W illiam A. Williams recently completed 30 years continuous service at the Raeford Plant of Burlington In dustries. Both of these quality minded operators came to work on the same day, May 26, 1953. Elizabeth Jones worked in the Preparation Department for a few months then transferred to Spin ning where she has spent the re mainder of her career as a spinner. Ervin Williams has worked in the Preparation Department dur ing his entire career working as a warper tender. Both were presented certificates, gold pins, and service award gifts by their supervisors and plant management. Si Tl 1 Ervin V/. tt Warns Elizabeth Jones JRA Ind.'s Hugh Wilson, Burlington's C. Hosteller Complete UNC Exec. Course Hugh T. Wilson. Director of manufacturing services at JRA Industries Inc. in Asheboro. and Raeford and C. Anderson Hosteller Jr.. of Burlington Industries in Greensboro, have received the certificate of completion at the Young Executives Institute gradua tion exercises held Friday. May 13. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Business Administration . Forty-eight executives from North Carolina. South Carolina. Georgia. Virginia. Colorado and Tennessee were awarded certifi cates by Dr. Harold G. Wallace. UNC-CH vice chancellor for uni versity affairs. Professor Jay Klompmaker. director of the Young Executives Institute (YEI). presided and John P. Evans, dean of the School of Business, pre sented the certificates. The class is the 13th to graduate from YEI. which was cited in Business Week as one of seven outstanding middle management courses in the country. Heilig-Meyers Listed On NY Stock Exchange Heilig-Meyers Company, the Richmond based home furnishings chain announced today that the Company's Common Stock has been listed for trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The Company's stock, which has been traded in the over the counter market since 1972, will be identified on the Exchange by the symbol HMY. Hyman Meyers, Chairman, stated that he believes the listing is another step in the Company's development and will be a long-term benefit to the Com pany and its stockholders. The management development course, designed for men and women between their middle 20s and 30s. covers a variety of business and economic topics. Both men have completed more than 105 hours of classroom in struction. 60 hours in small group seminars and approximately 250 hours of reading and preparation. Wilson is a graduate of N.C. State University. Wilson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Wilson formally of Raeford. Hostetler is a graduate of Wake Forest University. He has held various manufacturing, sales and administrative positions in Rae ford. New York and Greensboro. Hostetler lives in Greensboro and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Hostetler Sr. who live in Raeford. ? Baker completes 30 Rnberr /'. (Bobby) Baker recently completed iO years continuous ser vice with the Raeford Plant of Burlington Industries. He began work at the local facility in the W eave Department and has work ed there his entire career. Baker started as a Cleaner and through the years worked his way up through several promotions. Since April , 197 6, he has been a Super visor. I ? Retirement Waller McMillian retired with Burling/on Industries Dyeing Plan 1 June 6. He began his career with Burlington Industries June 12, 1973 and has serv ed in several capacities during his years of service. Wicker Tapped For Lions Post Harry L. Wicker, secretary of the Fayetteville Lions Club, has been elected district governor of District 31-F of Lions Clubs International. District 31-F includes Cumber land, Bladen. Columbus. Harnett, Hoke, Lee. Montgomery. Moore. Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland counties. Wicker is the south central regional director of the North Carolina Department of Human Resources' Division of Services for the Blind. In making the announcement, division director Herman Gruber said: "Harry Wicker is a, great friend of the visually impaired in North Carolina. He has served the people of the state with distinction for more than twenty years. His outstanding leadership skills will be of great value to the Lions Clubs." In addition to his work with Lions Oubs, Wicker is active in the North Carolina Federation of the Blind, the Flu Cured Tobacco Stabilization Corporation, the Lee County Beekeepers Association, the North Carolina Farm Bureau, and the White Hill Presbyterian Church . Wicker is married to the former Mary Alice Morgan. The couple have a 16-year-old daughter Mary Ann, and two sons, 12-year-old Harry Lee, Jr., and three-year-old Warren Kenneth.
