Plaquemines Gazette 'Profiles'
Article Cn Former Raeford Lady
The Plaquemines Gazette, Belle
C'hasse, Louisiana, featured an ar
ticle in the July I, 1983 issue,
under "Plaquemines Profiles", on
Lena Lewis, a Hoke County native
and daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Hendrix. 206 West Fifth
Avenue, Raeford. She is married
to school board superintendent.
Dr. Robert Lewis.
Mrs. Lewis at 36. is a profes
sional, and principal of Lynn
Oaks, a private school in Bernard
Parish in Plaquemines.
She was born in Hoke County
and married young. Her husband
urged her to go back to school for
her degree. After snagging a B.S.
in education, she taught, learning
along the way she loved working
with children. While living in
Virginia she worked toward her
master's degree, which she plans to
continue in the fall.
While she had offers to work in
Plaquemines Parish, she felt it
would be wise to work outside the
parish to establish her own identi
ty. She explained that since she is
the superintendent's wife, people
would wonder if she was getting
favors.
The role she cherishes the most
is being a mother to 16-year-old
l.ance and wife to her husband.
She talks of children with intensi
ty, respect and love. Noting that
working parents find it difficult to
spend time with their children, she
says teachers and administrators
must act as role models, "giving 50
percent or more."
