Jf Gather round - it *s music time When stormy, rainy weather pours down on Hoke County, outdoor recreation comes to a sudden halt but area kids don V let it get them down. Instead of pouting at home about nothing to do, they pull out the record players and dance the rainy day blues away. Hoke Tennis Assoc. Starts Ladder Play Members of the Hoke Tennis Association have begun ladder competition. At the end of play, trophies will be awarded to the winner in each ladder. According to the rules and ? regulations of the play: --One can challenge two posi tions ahead if there are ten or less participants in the ladder. If there are greater than ten participants, three positions ahead. -Winners are responsible for reporting position changes to the Parks & Recreation Department (875-5603). Current standings will be listed weekly in The News Journal. --Matches will consist of 2 out of 3 sets with the 12-point tiebreaker to be used at 6-6. USTA rules and regulations will be observed. --Any Association member who would like to join ladder competi tion may request to have his name added to the ladder. The first game went to Beasley's Body Shop over the Raeford Jaycees 12-2. G. Mauney 3-3 with one home run and C. Camp bell 3-4 were the leading batters for Beasley's. Raeford Jaycees were led by J.W. Jones 2-2, B. Stevens 2-3, and E. Ramsey 2-3. In the second game, Jones Intercable defeated Boahn Con crete 10-3. R. Taylor 3-3 and E. Daniels 3-3 were the leading hit ters for Jones Intercable. Boahn Concrete's leading batters were D. Clark 2-3, S. Holt 1-4 and R. Johnson 1-4. In the last game, Duffie Braves defeated Hard & Heavy 23-1 5. J. Monroe 4-5, R. Mclean 4-5, L. McMillian 3-5 and T. Page 3-6 were the leading hitters for Duffie Braves. Hard & Heavy was led by R. McRae 3-4, A. Thomas 2-4, and C. Singletary 2-4. In Thursday night's action, Hard & Heavy defeated Boahn Concrete 1 1-1. Hard & Heavy was led by K. McDonald 3-4, V. McDougals 2-3, V. Morrison 2-3 and L. McDonald 2-4. Boahn Concrete's leading batters were R. Lyle 1-3, D. Clark 1-2 and J. Boahn 1-2. In the second game, Jones Intercable defeated Duffie Braves 14-1. R. Taylor 3-4, S. Cummings 2-4 and E. Daniels 2-4 were the leading batters for Jones Intercable. Duffie Braves were led by J. Rainey 2-2, H. McNeill 2-2 and R. McLean 1-2. In the last game of the week, the All Stars defeated Beasley's 19-9. All Stars leading batters were B. Easterling 3-4 with one home run, B. Leslie 3-3, G. Maynor 3-4, and P. maynor 2-2. Beasley's was led by S. Sampson 3-3, S. Davis 2-2 and G. Mauney 2-3. Karate Class The Tae Kwon Do Karate class sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Commission will meet in the Recreation office on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Cost for the class is $20.00 a month instruction fee, and a $5.00 (ages 5-17) or $10.00 (18-up) insurance fee.
