Abuse Closes Library Bathrooms by Loaise McDiarmid BATHROOMS We regret we have had to close our bathrooms to everyone because of continued abuse. They have been locked off and on through the seven years we have been here because of continued abuse. Keys were kept at the desk and so many times kids were let in only one or two at a time. This takes too much time away from a staff member's regular job. Your tax dollars are paying for librarians, not babysitting. That's "another story." Anyway, some of our young visitors decided there should be a passage way from the boys bathroom over to the girls bathroom; therefore they proceed ed to knock out the ceiling and crawl over, knock out the girls ceil ing and came down. They did leave us a pair of pants. Now, you ask, "Where were the librarians all this time and why didn't someone hear what was go ing on?" -- Trying to do our library work and control enumerable amount of youngsters, running, milling around, and just general disruption. This librarian remembers a time, years ago, when there was an issue; 'whether to build public bathrooms downtown or not.' The library having done just that tells the 'powers that be'; you made a wise decision. At the present, our bathrooms remain locked to everyone. This is a bad situation since you paid for these. Also, in writing this news for the public; sadly, those who need to read it probably do not subscribe to the paper. And even sadder, so many, especially youngsters, think it's funny. If we don't allow abuse, we get greater abuse. You, who have the answers, your help is welcome; but before you make that decision, come down and spend a day or two at the library, consider all the options of a public building and then sub mit your prize winning suggestion. We've had many. But it's mighty easy to suggest, pick up your books and walk out the door and forget. We need a working solu tion!! We do appreciate all those who care. ? DISPLAYS Maybe you enjoyed ET, Space Envaders, Star -Wars, Close En counters of the Third Kind, etc. and now Return of the JEDI. Well, along with the excitement of all the outer space galaxies, space ships, space creatures, etc., there is a combined display for the youngsters, in the library, of ceramic space creatures and space ships. The little folks have shown great interest in this display. Your youngster will enjoy it too. Mrs. Elizabeth Jones of "Chic Ceramics", of course, is the displayer. She tries her best to keep up to date displays for you, the library patron. So many times she creates public interest displays for the 'now interests' just for the library. We hope all of you will let her know how special she is to work so hard for you, the library patron, young and old. Combining the extremely new with the beauty of 'forever'; the 'wise old owl' will greet you upon entrance to the library. The foyer case is completely filled with large and small owls. Owls are usually associated with the later season of the year, "Halloween" but we have an early start and you will really enjoy these feathered friends of the forest. Those of you who live near a wooded area know it's owl season all year long. It's hard to say you enjoy the owl all year especially when in the middle of the night you are awakened with the wail of a chilling screech or a constant WHEEL ALIGNMENT NEW TIRES and RECAPPING MCDONALD'S TIRE RECAP. SERVICE PHONE 875-2079 114 RACKET ALLEY ft STEWART STREET Library News whooo whooo but you can't help but smile to yourself when you hear the little ones beginning to emulate their parents. Sometimes we get so carried away with what's on TV or in our own personal doings we forget just how special the natural world is all around us. Just watching and listening quietly can add so much to the adventure of growing up. Don't allow yourself to miss too much. The owls are also done by Mrs. Jones.
