Meetings are held every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoke County Health Department Conference Room. Sept. 21 RETIRED SCHOOL PER SONNEL ? Hoke Co. Retired School Personnel to meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Hoke County Library. Social hour before business meeting to make plans for coming year. Sept. 22 GRAIN STORAGE - There will be a Grain Storage Meeting Thursday, September 22, beginning at 7 p.m., in the Agricultural Extension office. Grain storage techniques and insect control in stored grain will be discussed. One hour of recertification credit will be available in the Dealer, Ag. Pest-Plant, and Demonstration-Research classifications. Oct. 1 LEGISLATIVE MEETING - There will be a legislative meeting and workshop with state Rep. Sidney A. Locks, House of Representatives in the 30th District to be held on Saturday. Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Masonic Hall on Vass Road at caution light. Please come out and listen to what the lawmaker has to say. Ask questions if you wish. The general public is invited. Oct. 3 SCHOOL BOARD - The regular monthly meeting of the Hoke County Board of Educa tion has been changed to Mon day, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The public is urged to attend. Oct. 3 CIVIC LEAGUE - The Hoke County Civic League will meet Monday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Leak Springs Mis sionary Baptist Church. Ms. Vivian Wilson of Robeson County Board of Elections will discuss Voter Registration. All ministers are asked to be pre sent at 7 p.m. The public is in vited to attend the regular meeting which begins at 7:30 Oct. 4 SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB - The Raeford Senior Citizen's Friendship Club will meet on Tuesday, October 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the Raeford United Methodist Church, part of the program will be an oral ques tion and answer period on North Carolina. Members are asked to bring discarded egg cartons, yarn, foam meat trays, baby food jars, wire coat hangers, beads and other such items that can be used in the art classes in the Hoke County schools. Oct. 6-8 STUDY CONFERENCE - The public is invited to attend the 30th annual study con ference of the North Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children in Winston Salem on October 6-J. 1500 people are expected to attend the conference which will focus on "Keeping the Child in Childhood." Events Oct. 1 B1KE-A-THON - The second annual Leukemia Bike-A-Thon will be held Oct. 1 at 9:30 a.m. at the High School, Gibson parking lot. Young and old arc invited to ride. You need to have a spopsor sheet, which can be picked up at the Medicine Shoppe. If you would like to donate money, call 875-8297. There will be cookies and drinks for after the ride and prizes will be given. Oct. 1 CLASS OF "67" - The class of '67' of Burlington Elemen tary School, located at Duffie Station - Red Springs, will have a class get together party on Oct. 1 at The Renaissance in Red Springs at 8 p.m. A slight admission charge at the door. Oct. 1-2 HIGHLAND GAMES - The Flora Macdonald Highland Games will be held Oct. 1-2 at the Don Humphrey farm located four miles outside of Red Springs just off Highway 71 in Shannon. The two day event, which is the seventh an nual games, will include a re enactment of a Revolutionary War battle, athletic and highland dancing competitions and piping and drumming con tests. Arts and crafts, demonstrations, children's games and many more events will take place during the two day extravaganza. Gates will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday and at 9:30 a m on Sunday. Admis sion prices are $3 in advance for adults, and J4 at the gate. $1 for children 6-18. CLINIC - The Hoke County 4-H Horse Club is sponsoring a free Horse Clinic at the Armory Park in Raeford on Saturday. October 1, begin ning at 10 a.m. The Clinic will feature Lynn Padrick, Arabian Horse trainer; \k alter Smith, Quarter Horse trainer . and some of their horses There will be discussions on the three dif ferent breeds and exhibits on the various styles of riding. Entries are now being accepted for the 1983 U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament held October 6, 7 and 8 from the Southport Marina with SI 5.000 going to the first prize winner. November 21-26 PEE DEE DEER HI NT -- A limited, permit-only, gun-hunt for deer will be held on the Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge in Anson and Richmond coun ties this fall. The gun season will run from November 21-22 and November 25-26, and the bag limit will be one deer of either sex. The archery season on the refuge will run through October 8 in Richmond County and through November 12 in ?\nson County. No permit is re quired for archery hunters. Blazons Oct. I, Nov. 5 BINGO -- Raeford Junior Woman's Club will sponsor bingo games at the Civic Center the first Saturday In each month (except December). Games will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. A variety of games are played, including a split pot. and a jackpot of $50 is given away each night. The Piedmont Natural Gas Cook ing Theatre will be the demonstration area for Oian and Chef Tell, and local grocery representatives also will be present to talk about their gourmet and other lood specialties. Each race will follow a course around the campus The one mile "Fun Run" will start at 9:30 a m and medals will be given to the first three finishers. The five kilometer and ten-kilomeier runs will follow The first two male and female finisher* in each of these races will also be awarded medals. The first place winner in the 10-kilometer race will receive a trophy Awards will be given during a special ceremony to be held at noon on the field adjacent to C arter (iymnasium. A drawing for free merchandise will be con ducted at the beginning of the program, guest speakers in clude Senator Robert Morgan; Dr. Norman Wiggins, presi dent of Campbell University; and Dr . C L .
