Elgin Blue, a 16-year-old junior was named as Varsity Male Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Lumberton game on Friday night. Elgin ran for two touchdowns from his position as fullback in the losing 31-30 effort. Blue also played the entire game on the defense as strong side linebacker. Blue has been involved in sports ever since beginning in junior high at Upchurch in the 7th grade. Blue played football, basketball, and baseball in junior high. He was awarded the MVP Award in basketball in the 8th grade. Since coming to the high school, Elgin has concentrated his athletic efforts on football and baseball. At school, Elgin is a member of the Spanish Club. Outside school and athletics, Elgin's main interest is music. Blue, upon graduation, plans to attend college and major in Sociology. He plans to use his degree to lead to a career in the area of Social Work. Elgin attends Miracle Temple Church in Raeford and resides with his mother, Ms. Lillie R. Blue, at 904 Johnson St. As Non-Varsity Male Athletes of the Week, the entire J.V. foot ball team was honored. The team received the honor for capturing the Southeastern 4A Conference J.V. Championship. In doing this, the team posted a "perfect 10." They were undefeated in 10 games this season. Recreation Bits Parks and Recreation Basketball Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission will be spon soring four different adult basketball leagues this fall and winter for all interested participants. Details for the various leagues are as follows: Men's Liniment: Ages 30-Up as of January 1 , 1984. Place and time for games will be arranged at a later date. Organizational meeting will be January 3, 7:00 p.m., Parks and Recreation of CZ Women's League: Ages 18-Up, or no longer in High School. Men's Volleyball Continues The Parks and Recreation Commission's Men's Volleyball League continued action November 3. The first match involved the Spikers and the Observers, with the Spikers forfeiting the match due to a lack of players. The second match of the night featured the Meanies versus the Blanks. Led by the playing of Jimmy Teal and Bob Ih de, the Meanies took a clean sweep of the match in just two games, 15-5 and 15-13. The Blanks were sparked by the playing of Wayne Mills and Smokey McMillan. The last match of the night featured a close contest between the No Hits and Bad Company. Powered by the serving of Mit chell Cox and George Drawhom, Bad Company managed to edge out the No Hits 15-7, 8-15 and 16-14. The No Hits were led by the serves of Vance McGougan and Tony Austin.
