Accident Claims F ayetteville Man By Sherry Matthews A Fayetteville man was killed in stantly Saturday when the car he was driving struck another vehicle on U.S. Highway 401 two miles north of Raeford, State Trooper Ken Weston said. Lester David Ray, 54, of Fayet teville was killed after his 1971 Volkswagen collided with a Chevy pickup truck around 5:45 Saturday morning. A passenger in the Ray car and the driver of the pick-up, John E. Dovine, 31, of Fayetteville, were also injured in the accident. Both were taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital that morning for treatment, Trooper John Glidewell said. According to Weston and Glidewell, the 1980 pickup that Dovine was driving was headed north on 401 when it ran off the left side of the road and came back onto the highway sideways. The oncoming Ray vehicle struck the pickup in the left side, according to Weston. Raeford Medical Examiner R.G. Townsend pronounced Ray "dead on the scene," Weston said. Dovine was charged with misde meanor death by vehicle, accor ding to Glidewell. "The rescue squad and the Hoke Emergency Services did an ex cellent job at the scene," Weston said. "They made our job a lot easier," Weston added. Saturday's accident brings the county fatality toll to six for the year, three less than last year's final tally. ...Break-ins Mounting (Continued from page 1A) reported to sheriff's deputies last Wednesday that someone ap parently removed a T-top piece from his car that had been parked at the Carolina Country Mobile Home Park on U.S. Highway 401.
