Upchurch Boys Win Conference Upchurch Jr. High ended the regular basketball season with a 14-0 record and won the first Southeastern Jr. High Tournament to finish with a 16-0 record. In the first round the Eagles defeated Hamlet 56 to 40. In the tournament final Upchurch de feated Anson County 39 to 35. The Eagles have ended the season undefeated six out of the last seven years. The girls are coached by Pat Scott who has a 91 wins and 9 losses career record. The boys are coached by Stan Calkndar who has a career record of 131 wins and 14 losses. Lady Eagles Win Championship The Lady Eagles defeated An son 38-18 last Tuesday and Hamlet 55-28 Thursday to take the champ ionship for their division with a 140 record. K. Bronson led the Eagles in An son's defeat with 21 points follow ed by N. Singletary with 15 points. J. Locklear added 2 points for the Eagles 38-18 decision with numerous defensive plays that aid ed the Eagles triumph. Balanced scoring and great defensive effort by the Eagles upset the Hamlet scoring efforts. K. Bronson led the Eagles with 17 points; Y. Maynor scored 15 points with a beautiful job off the offensive board. N. Singletary scored 12 points keeping the team composed. B. Morrisey had two points for the Eagles 55-28 deci sion over Hamlet. 9th Grade Girls Win Conference The Hoke High ninth grade girls' basketball team took the con ference title Wednesday night as they defeated Anson Junior High School 60-49. The young lady Bucks finished the season with an unblemished 15-0 record. "It has been a total team effort all year," Head Coach Spence Sampson said. Sampson also credited Teresa Kelton and Thelma Watkins as be ing the "dominant players" for this year's Buck team. "The rest of the team has Tilled the roles of playmakers, re bounders and defense to make up a total team," Sampson said. "This has been a great season for us. They have been a fine group of players to work with," he added. Kelton was high scorer during the championship game with 26 points. Watkins added 20 for the night. O. Maynor led the All Stars with 46 points followed by R. Maynor with 10, and t- Southerland with 9 points. The Bullets were spurred by W. Blue with 23 points, R. Ross - 15, and Blue and H. McGregor added 10 points apiece. The second game of the night went to Hollingsworth Bus Company as they edged the Scurlock Tigers to a 72-69 victory. L. McBryde pumped in 22 points, K. McDonald had 14, and J. Carthens and J. McDonald had 13 each to lead Hollingsworth in scoring. N. McKoy threw in 20 points, N. McNeill added 18 and K. Jones had 16 points to lead the Tiger's scoring attack. Competition continued February 8, as Hollingsworth Bus Company defeated the Bullets, 93-51 . K. McDonald with 23 points, J. Carthens - 20, and L. McDonald with 17 points were the high scorers for Hollingsworth. W. Blue pumped in 18 points, J. Porter had 12, and G. Baldwin added 11 more points to lead the Bullets in scoring. The night's closing game went to the Suns as they downed Park's Grocery, 80-73. R. McNeill scored 33 points, W. Love pumped in 18, and L.
