Hobnob gets support
The Hoke County Heritage
Hobnob has been organized for
May 4 and 5 as a community func
tion which will help promote this
county throughout the state.
Organizers of the Hobnob hope
to make it an annual event and to
expand its scope each year. In
order to be self-sustaining in the
future, the festival needs help in its
first year.
These individuals and organiza
tions have contributed to make the
Hobnob a success:

Four youths
By Sherry Matthews
Four Hoke County youths were
turned over to the juvenile
authorities last week after being
apprehended and charged with a
rash of shoplifting incidences,
Raeford Police Chief Leonard
Wiggins said.
All four juveniles were picked
up within a four-day period.
Despite the apparent "rash" of
youthful offenders, Wiggins said
"it was not really that unusual."
"I don't think there are more
shoplifters. There are just more be
ing caught," Wiggins said.
"1 think store personnel are
more aware of the problem," he
added.
"These things just come in
rashes," the chief said.
Two of the juveniles, one 14
years old and the other 13 years
old, were taken into custody last
week at the A&P Store in the
Edenborough Shopping Center.
The 13-year-old was caught
allegedly trying to steal $1.98 in
candy while later the same day an
older youth attempted to take
$3.99 in merchandise.
Two days later, two 15-year-olds
were taken into custody after

Clean-up aid
Volunteer clean-up crews from Raeford and other neighboring areas
aided Red Springs citizens as they prepared to clean out from under

limbs and debris at Flora Macdonald Academy. Until the damage is
repaired at the school, classes are scheduled to be held at the Red
Springs First Baptist Church from 8:15 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Kindergarten through seventh-grade students will follow this
schedule.

terrible crimes being committed, it
nukes us wonder what this country
is coming to.
After the disaster that hit North
and South Carolina we can say
that people in general have a heart
of gold. The aid that is going into
this area is coming from all over
the United States.
It makes one feel good to hear
an announcer say that supplies are
so plentiful that people should
hold up until the things received in
these areas can be separated. The
swiftness of the Red Cross, Salva
tion Army and the State Emergen
cy agency is to be commended.
The helping hands that have
provided food for the workers
should not be overlooked. The
amazing thing is that so many peo
ple want to help in any way that
they can. They don't want recogni
tion; they only want to be helpful.
This is good because after the
clean-up, the rebuilding will start
and then more help will be needed.
So just wait and your chance will
come.
There are many places that are
receiving cash donations and if you
can't find somewhere to send your
money, I will be glad to tell you.

Most everyone that has a
telephone gets a call at some time
and you know at once that some
one has the wrong number. This
happened to me Monday.
A lady called and asked for Mr.
Morris. I told her she was talking
to him. What she said then inform
ed me she had the wrong number.
It seemed someone had told her
that I had equipment to till
gardens. Now this is one thing I
can't do and since childhood
haven't attempted to be a
gardener. I believe you could paint
my thumb green and it would
change colors.
Yes, she had the wrong number.

Don't forget that Monday, April
9 is the last day to register for the
primary. The election office will be
open until five o'clock in the after
noon. If you haven't registered,
please do so. You can't vote if you
are not registered.
