Front Burner (Continued from page 4B) SCALLOPED PEAS AND ASPARAGUS 1 large can green peas 1 large can asparagus 1 cup crackers small can water chestnuts 1 can cream of mushroom soup Place a layer of green peas, a layer of asparagus (green or white), a layer of cracker crumbs and the water chestnuts in a casserole. Add asparagus juice and can of cream of mushroom soup mixed together. Bake at 350? for about an hour. Serves 6. PEANUT BRITTLE 1 cup white sugar 1/4 cup water pinch of salt 1/2 cup white karo syrup 2 cups raw peanuts 1 teaspoon baking soda Mix sugar, syrup, water and salt. Bring to a rolling boil. Add raw peanuts. Turn heat on medium high and cook until peanuts sjnell parched. Syrup will look dark brown. Whip in 1 teaspoon baking soda. Pour in greased pan and spread quickly. When cold it will be all in one sheet. Break up into pieces. QUICK CHOCOLATE POUND CAKE 1 box yellow cake mix with pud ding 1 large box brownie mix 1 package chocolate chips Mix each mix according to its directions. Combine. Add chocolate chips. Cook at 325?. MINTS all but 1/4 cup of 10X confec tionary sugar 7 drops food coloring 1/2 cup butter 7 drops peppermint extract Mix with fork until moist. Add 2 1/2 to 3 tablespoons evaporated milk. Knead until workable. Roll mints into small balls, then put in to a bowl of granulated sugar before pressing into molds. CHEESE BISCUITS 2 1/2 cups plain flour 1 stick grated sharp cheese 1/4 teaspoon red pepper 2 cups rice krispies 2 sticks margarine 1/2 teaspoon salt Mix all together. Add rice krispies last. Make into small balls and press, or roll into oblong rolls and cut 1/4 inch thick. Bake 350? until brown around edges 12 - 14 minutes. CHOCOLATE CHESS PIE 1 stick butter 1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 squares unsweetened chocolate 2 eggs beaten dash of salt Mix butter and chocolate and mix with other ingredients. Pour into 9 inch pie shell (unbaked) or 12 tart shells or 24 tartlet shells. Bake 30 - 35 minutes at 350?. Top with whip ped cream or desired topping.
