She has been in the Army for 21 months. She is a 1981 graduate of Hoke County High School. Slade completes Marine course Marine Pfc. Billy Slade Jr., son of Algie L. Bratcher of Wooley Street, Raeford, has completed the Administrative Clerk's Course. The four-week course was con ducted at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif. The course was designed to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge to perform as ad ministrative clerks. Students received instruction on typing, preparation of naval cor respondence and were introduced to the basic office functions, such as filing, performed by all Marine Corps administrative sections. (Photo by Rebecca Jones) Foursome takes heart tourney The four-man team of Jim Fisher, David Hendrix, Bill Lentz and Jim Tatum won the Hoke County Heart Association Golf Tournament held last week at Arabia Golf Course. The foursome had a score of 121 in the 18-hole best net 2 of 4 balls format, according to Rebecca Smith, Fundraising Chairperson of the Hoke County Heart Associa tion. Steve Parker of Southern Na tional Bank was co-chairperson for the event. The second place foursome con sisted- of Scott Poole, Joey War ren, Billy Owen and Melvin Brown. Finishing in third place were Lawrence Bullard, Charles Crowder, Chris McDuffie and Bil ly Monroe. In fourth place were Earl McDuffie, Billy Lester, Clyde Register and Randall Ashburn. Following the tournament, members of the Hoke County Heart Association thanked Gene Carter who donated the trophies; Aberdeen Bottling Company who donated Cokes; Brandi Gardener and Johna Nixon for helping serve refreshments; Brown and Kathy Hendrix for technical assistance and Steve Parker and Southern National Bank for help in organiz ing the tournament. In the first game of the week, Boahn Concrete defeated the All Stars 14-3. Boahn scored eight runs in the fourth inning to seal the victory. L. Chason hit 3-3 with one home run, and R. Cook and H. Thompson were also 3-3 each to lead Boahn Concrete in hitting for the night. The All Stars leading batters were G. Maynor with 2-2, R. Maynor 1-2, and S. Wallace was 1-3. In the second game, Hard and Heavy downed the Jaycees 1 5-3. The leading batters for Hard and Heavy were: S. McDonald 3-4, G. McCall 2-3 and one home run, M. Brown 2-4 with one home run, and V. Morrison was 2-3. The Jaycees were led by the hitting of C. McDuffie 1-3, K. Rogers 1-3, and S. Knox and R. Frahm each 1-2.
