DEADLINES: Weddings A Engagements, Thursday 5 p.m. Other Social Items, Monday 5 p.m. v Wrights celebrate Golden anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Julian Wright | were honored on their Golden Wedding Anniversary at a recep tion in their home on Sunday, Oc tober 7. Friends and family came during the afternoon to con gratulate the Wrights. Hosts were their sons and daughters-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. J. Hugh Wright of Winston-Salem, Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Wright of Raeford, Mr. and Mrs. W. Flet I cher Wright of Mobile, Ala., and ' Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Wright of Raeford. Receiving with their parents were the Wright's eight grand children: Mary O'Neale, Julian, Robert, Will, Richard, Tom, John, and Lynn Wright. Family and friends of the honored couple served in the din ing room. These included Mrs. L.W. Stanton, Mrs. Sarah M. McNeill, Mrs. Crawford L. Thomas, Jr., Mrs. Cecil McPhaul, Mrs. Belton Wright, Mrs. J.W. McPhaul, Mrs. Chandler Roberts, and Mrs. Harold Gillis. Nieces and nephews of Mr. and Mrs. Wright greeted guests on the terrace. They were Mr. and Mrs. Watson McNeill, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ash burn, Mr. and Mrs. James McPhaul, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Wrifht. Miss Livingston honored j Miss Sabrina Livingston, bride elect, has been honored this week with several Bridal Parties. She and Richard Warner are to be mar ried October 13. Miss Livingston was honored at a floating miscellaneous shower, given on October 2 in the home of Mrs. Jennifer Manning. Mrs. Evelyn Manning and Mrs. Louise . Sessoms were also hostesses. ' Guests brought gifts and were served cake, nuts, finger foods, and punch. The table was decorated with blue candles and a "country" centerpiece. The hostesses gave Miss Liv ingston a corsage and a piece of her crystal. On October 5 Mrs. Jeanette Wood's home was the setting for a shower hosted by Mrs. Wood, Miss Cathy Angle, Mrs. Suzanne Balfour and Mrs. Sharon Shirer. The bride-elect received many gifts including a serving platter in her china from the hostesses. She received a corsage when she arriv ed. Cake squares, mints, nuts and a cheese ball were served with punch. On October 8 at a meeting of Mrs. Warner's circle, Miss Liv ingston was invited for lunch with the members. Raeford, N.C Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Hayes Hayes celebrate 5Qh On Sunday, September 23, the children of Ethel and Woodrow Hayes honored their parents with a reception held at the Raeford Civic Center. The reception was catered by Red Springs Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. The table was decorated with a gold candelabra filled with yellow roses, baby's breath and fern. Punch and several types of hors d'oeuvrjr^were served. A four tiered anniversary cake with white icin^cmd decorated with yelflbw roses was served by Mrs. Blanche The register was attended by Jana and Virginia Hayes, grand daughters of the couple. Greeting guests were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Floyd and Mr. and Mrs. Vardell Hedgpeth Jr. Mrs. Kathleen Jones and Mrs. Marie Fowler attended the gift table. ? The occasion was enjoyed by many friends and relatives and out-of-town guests. This event, to be held at the Arabia Golf Course, is to be the Club's major money -raising project. Each department member was given an assignment for the tour nament. Posters are being made by each department for publicizing the tourney. A "mock" tourna ment will be held at the course on October 24 to help the workers do their jobs more efficiently. Clubwomen were reminded of their responsibilities for refreshments for symphony members. The date of the first Open Meeting of all four departments has been set for November 13 at the Hoke Public Library. The Education Department will host this meeting. The regular meeting time would conflict with poll watching on Election Day. All Clubwomen were reminded to vote on November 6. Public Affairs The Public Affairs Department invited State Representative Daniel H. DeVane to talk to them about his work as a legislator. He invited the group to visit the Legislative Building as his guests. The group met in the home of Mrs. Peggy McBryde. Mrs. Mary Chestnutt, Miss Caroline Parker, and Mrs. Justin Plummer were also hostesses. Education The members of the Education Department met at the Library to make "skinny books" to be presented to the Hoke County ' Schools for American Education Week. After the work, the members were treated to finger ; foods and hot punch prepared by ' hostesses Mrs. Joan Balfour, Mrs. Vicky Balfour, and Mrs. Jessie Neeley. Garden The Garden Department met at the home of Mrs. Jean Adcox where there were fall decorations inside and outside. The hostess had used pumpkins, pine cones, and "roadsidia". Mrs. Lyda Jordan and Mrs. Charlotta King, co hostesses, served dainty foods and hot-spiced apple juice from a table decorated with pink roses and . caladiums. Mrs. Kathleen Jones presented a program on making fall ar rangements using grapevine and "country" materials. Members were given packages of potpourri. Arts The Arts Department will meet on October 13 for a Fall outing to Jugtown. The members will meet at the Library at 9:00, visit potters, see the Fall foliage in the Sandhills, and stop in Pinehurst for lunch. Women who are interested in being a part of the Arts Department Fun With- Art Outings are invited. Meet the group at the Library.
