The parents listened as the two reading teachers explained how students are selected for the pro gram and what they do in the Reading Lab. The parents asked questions which Mrs. Lupo and Mrs. Wood answered. Mrs. Artie McPhatter, teacher ' assistant, served pumpkin cookies, which were made by the reading students, Halloween candy, nuts and "witches brew" to the parents. Two door prizes, both books, were given. fcss-1 -- Jvr- 1 V Fourteen persons attended. - Earlier the faculty of West Hoke School honored their Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Rosette Locklear, with a reception held in the school's media center on Monday, October 22. Mrs.. Locklear was presented with a gift from the staff. Milton Williams, principal of West Hoke, was honored at the reception also and was presented with a gift certificate for Boss's Day. After the presentation of the gifts, the honorees and faculty en joyed punch and cookies served by the West Hoke Hospitality Com mittee. In still further school news, the open house ct West Hoke School held recently was a big success. It was held in the cafetarrium. The program began with the fourth grade chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Miriam McNeill, singing several numbers. Parnell Miles, a fourth grade teacher, showed slides that were taken around the school. All classrooms and many students and teachers were shown in these slides. They were enjoyed by all. Door prizes were given after which the Hospitality Committee at West Hoke served refreshments. Parents and friends then visited the classrooms. The students were also helping with the school's summer TMH program by participating in the carnival. Over $ 2,800 was raised during the activities.
