Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Martin Scarboro Jr. of Raeford. ?Hust-Bales will marry Mr. and Mrs. Howard Terrell Hust of Prospect Avenue in Raeford announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Lee Hust of Raleigh, to Herbert Ken neth Bales. Mr. Bales, of Raleigh, is the son of Mrs. Herbert Mid dleton Bales of Savannah, Georgia C and the late Mr. Bales. The wedding is planned for May 18 in the Raleigh First Baptist Church. The bride-elect is a graduate of Hoke High School. She received a B.S. in Computer Science at North Carolina State University in Raleigh in December. She is employed as a computer consul tant with SAS Institute, Inc. of Raleigh. The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of A.E. Beach High School in Savannah, Ga. and holds a B.A. in History and Political Science from Warren Wilson Col lege. He also has a B.A. in accoun ting and business management from North Carolina University in Raleigh. He is employed as a staff accountant with Price Waterhouse & Co. in Raleigh. Personals Mrs. Addie Linthicum celebrated her birthday with her son, Henry Smith, in Greensboro over the weekend. Parties honor Miss Townsend A number of parties have been given recently to honor Miss Susan Townsend, bride-elect of Glen Barnes. The couple's wedding is planned for April 6 in the Raeford United Methodist Church. A luncheon at the Wright home on Cross Creek Farm honored Miss Townsend on March 7. Hostesses for the occasion were Mrs. T.B. Upchurch, Mrs. R.B. Lewis, Mrs. James Weaver, and Mrs. W.T. Gibson. A yellow daisy corsage was given to the bride-elect when she arrived. Guests were invited into the den for juice and appetizers. Baskets of jonquils and daf fodils decorated the living room where places were laid for fifteen guests. Breast of chicken served with duck sauce and cherries was the main course. The hostesses gave Miss Town send gifts of china and silver. On March 7, Mrs. Banks Richardson and Mrs. T.C. Jones hosted a shower honoring Miss Townsend at the Richardson home in Aberdeen. The bride-elect and her mother, Mrs. R.G. Townsend, were given white daisy corsages when they ar rived. Guests were invited into the livingroom where Miss Townsend was showered with gifts. Mixed spring flowers were used all through the house and centered on the dining room table. Fresh vegetables, sausage in pastry, roasted pecans, cake squares, and punch were served. A cross-stitch picture by Mrs. Richardson and crystal were gifts of the hostesses. Mrs. George King, Mrs. David Howell, and Miss Polly King were hostesses for a luncheon on March 9 in the Howell home. Miss Town send was presented a corsage of pink stock when she arrived. Cheese biscuits, tomato juice, and wine were offered to the guests in the den. The sixteen guests were served a meal of chicken salad over cantaloupe, asparagus, grapes, pineapple, pears, and brownie pie. The bride-elect's table was decorated with an arrangement of spring flowers on a mirror; a tulip on each side created a candle ef fect. The hostesses gave Miss Town send gifts of silver. Mr. and Mrs. James Benton McLeod Jrv, Mrs. Peter B. Sawyer, Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt Up church, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Willis, and Miss Mary Margaret Sawyer were hosts for a buffet din ner honoring Miss Townsend and Mr. Barnes. The party was given in the Upchurch home on March 9. When she arrived the bride-elect was given a wedding ring corsage. Punch, smoked oysters, and olives wrapped in cheese pastry were served in the den as the guests began to gather. An arrangement of yellow candles clustered with forsythia and jonquils was the centerpiece for the dining room table. Turkey, roast beef, shrimp mold, spinach squares, assorted fresh fruit with poppy seed dressing, and a variety of vegetables with dip were served. Individual cheesecakes and rum cakes were served for dessert. The bridal couple received gifts of crystal, china, flatware, and brass bookends. Mrs. Crawford Thomas Sr. and her daughter, Mrs. Carson Davis Jr. of Wilmington, were hostesses for a luncheon meeting of the United Methodist Women Noon Prayer Group of which the bride elect's mother is a member. The seven members of the group gathered to honor Miss Townsend on March 11. Spring flowers centered the din ing room table. Gifts of the hostesses were china and bakeware. All the members brought gifts for the bride-elect. On March 15 Mrs. William Sellars hosted a shower for Miss Townsend. Mrs. Gary Culp recorded the gifts as they were opened. Bride and groom figurines en circled with spring flowers created the centerpiece for the dining room table. Refreshments of cake, nuts, assorted cheeses and vegetables, and punch were served. The hostess gave the honoree a lace apron and china. A luncheon at the Fort Bragg Officers Club honored Miss Town send on March 16. Hostesses were Mrs. Clyde Knox, Mrs. Ransom Baucom, and Mrs. Vernon Hub bard. The bride-elect was given a cor sage of white daisies. The tables were covered with pink linen. Pink and blue flowers were used on each table. Place-cards for the sixteen guests were decorated with miniature pink and blue flowers, carrying out the colors of the private dining room. After the luncheon, Miss Town send was given gifts of crystal, flat ware, and a hand painted heart wreath. Mr. and Mrs. John Pecora and Mr. and Mrs. Graham Clark were hosts for a cookout on St. Patrick's Day honoring Miss Townsend and Mr. Barnes. The bride-elect and her mother, Mrs. R.G. Townsend, received daisy corsages when they arrived. The tables were decorated with yellow and white cloths and ar rangements of spirea, daffodils, and forsythia. Fifteen guests were served steak, baked potato, salad, and coconut cake. The hosts remembered the bridal couple with gifts of flatware and a wooden dog made by Mr. Pecora. Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Parker of Route 1, Red Springs, announce the engagement of their daughter, Teresa Parker, to Robert Ellis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ellis of Route 3, Lumber Bridge. The wedding is planned for July 28 and is to be held outside on the EUis lake in St. Pauls. Miss Parker is a graduate of Hoke High School and is employed by the House of Raeford. J.H.
