. 2nd half letdown kills girls hopes A second half letdown resulted in the Hoke High Girls Basketball team's loss in the State Tourna ment semi-finals last week, the coach said Monday. The Hoke girls were winning that game until late in the third quarter, but ended up losing to Cary by 10 points. "We just didn't play ball the se cond half," Hoke Head Coach Audrey Long said. "Shots wouldn't fall and there was no rebounding," she said. The final score of the game was Cary 66, Hoke County 56. At half-time, the ladies were up by six points with a score of 30-24. Although disappointed that the girls did not win the game, Coach Long is still proud of her team. "They did well to get (to the semi-finals)," Long said. "They beat some good teams to get there." Hoke ended the season with a 24-3 overall record with two of those losses being to last year's state champions, Reid Ross. The Bucks were led by Del Pridgen who popped the nets for 19 points. Following behind closely was Sheila Southerland who scored 12. According to Long, next year will be one of rebuilding for the girls. "All of this year's front five are gone," she said. "But, Hoke shouldn't be so bad next year." There will be some strong for wards on the team and there were some dedicated guards on the bench this season, Long said. "There was a lot of talent on the bench," she said. Next year may be the one that sees Hoke County bring home a state crown.
